One of my cats is more adventurous than I can appreciate. he's always looking for fun and the quest never stops. one of his obsessions is clawing himself through the window screen to try to end up outside. I adopted him last year at 4 months and he's been trying since then, having made tiny holes in the screens of just about every window in my house..  last night, while I was asleep, he made the hole bigger in the screen and jumped out!! I live on the second floor of a house and it's pretty high up from the ground. I discovered he was missing this morning at 10 when my mom came to my room to get him so she could feed him. when he didn't emerge from my room, my mom started to call him and then she woke me up to look for him. The hole in the screen looked slightly bigger but I couldn't understand how he could squeeze his arms, legs and body through it without having made a sound.

After looking around the house, I went outside. the window to my room opens into the backyard, which is fenced but there are openings to squeeze through. anyway, I took his treats and tried shaking the bag but I didn't see or hear him. one of my beloved stray cats  was leading me around the backyard, my sister, who noticed this decided to follow his lead and voila!! inky was there, hidden in the tall grass and plants!!. as I got closer to where he was, he started moving around and when he lifted his face, I could see the blood around his mouth. I was so terrified and scared for his life. he has some neurological deficit and his back and legs are not strong so I was afraid he could be seriously injured. I pulled him out of the bushes and into my arms. luckily he hadn't broken anything. we took him upstairs and he was running around like his normal self. he has an injury to his mouth area - it's scraped, the hair is missing also. Since I brought him back up, he has tried to get in the window again!! im keeping all of my windows closed until I figure out what I need to do.

is there anything I can install in the windows to prevent this from happening again? im so desperate for a resolution.

thanks in advance!!

You can replace the window screens with screen that is meant to put up with abuse from pets such as this one: http://www.metroscreenworks.com/pet-screen.php

if you have double hung windows, open the window from the top instead of the bottom to prevent the cat from clawing at the screen and potentially getting outside. If not, open the window just a few inches to allow air in but keep the cat from getting at the screen and squeezing under the sash. I keep my windows open barely 3 inches during the summer when I'm not home because I worry that my Aby will push against the flimsy screen and fall 3 floors down

We put the sticky tape that deters cats on the screens. Just a few not the whole area and it worked.  Even on the sliding glass door sreens.  It also covers some of the tears.

You might want to double up on the screens. I don't trust the screens in my window, and my sister suggested I put one of those portable screens you buy pretty much everywhere and place it in the window. The window is heavy and it seems to be be secure. It gives me a lot of peace of mind, though I imagine a really stubborn cat might be able to pull that out too.

Can you trim his claws a little?

Might be an obvious question, but is he neutered? Unfixed cats tend to want to roam more.

His claws are always trimmed and, yes, he's neutered. He is just way too curious and adventurous, and while I love his verve for life, sometimes it's very hard to be running around after him.

I think his body is hurting him. He's moaning in his sleep [emoji]128575[/emoji]

In that case, he needs to see a vet as soon as you can. He might have hurt himself outside -- left unchecked, it could be life threatening.

As for the screen, I second the suggestion that they should be replaced with one of those solid full screens.

Omg, I just re read and realized he jumped from a second floor window. Are you planning on a vet visit? I would.

He's walking around, even running and behaving normally, but his lower lip is busted/missing hair, his gums look bad/bruised, and one of his nails is bloodied. I'm planning a vet visit. He might be in pain and just hiding it. When he sleeps, I hear him making sounds. The more I think about what he did, the more terrified I feel. The ground that he landed on is bare and concrete. My elderly cat did the same thing a year ago when she was 18 1/2. Second floor window, but over grass, not concrete. The hole was already in the screen but I never imagined it was a cat danger. She is afraid to go outdoors and never tried to get out. She was gone for 2 full days and completely fine.

So I want to take him to the vet just to make sure he's ok, but my sister is insisting there is no need. He's walking around, running, and doing all the things he used to do before the fall. The swelling from his face is gone now. What do you guys think?

Is he your cat? Or your sister's?

Better to have the vet say that he's fine, than to find out later when it's too late that he's not.
