Hi, My name is Sandy and I was referred here by a friend.

My female cat just came down with a UTI which I know very little about.  She was a stray that I brought in about five years ago and we have been through plenty.

the usual stuff at first from a stray, worms, giardia getting her spayed.  We have had the giardia a few times and for years loose stools and gas.  A month ago I had her tested for food allergy's and sure enough she is allergic to five things.  Pork, rice, tomato, barley and yeast.  the lab that did the testing also sent a list of the brands and flavors of foods she can have.  I started her on Wellness chicken but mostly Natural Balance, chicken & pea, venison & pea, duck & pea and a few times the salmon. She only gets canned and sometimes a dusting of freeze dried chicken on top.  It's the only treat she can have. Now that I have $250 worth of Natural Balance I sure hope I don't have to change her food again.  I have it sent to me so I can't return it, I live in a rural area.  I can't find anything on the food list that is for urinary health either so this is already difficult. Sorry I forgot to mention she also has gallstones but the ex-ray I had them take last Friday shows that they are looking pretty good right now, not inflamed.

She's been on Amoxi for 2 days now, she has peed but she still doesn't feel good.  I did see her in the box today but I don't think she did anything. I've also been giving her laxatone the ex-ray showed she needed to poop and might have had a little blockage going on from a mouse she ate the other day. Why at this time of year a mouse came in my house, I don't know.

I know this long please forgive me.  Any thoughts , ideas or knowledge about UTI's would be greatly appreciated.  I've been trying to do some reading about it.  Thought it best to get it all out here, I'm sure I will have future questions.

thanks

Here's some good info about urinary tract issues and diet:

Any canned food will help with most urinary issues. There's no magic ingedient in canned food - just the high moisture content that will hlep keep the body well hydrated and functioning at its optimal level. Many people add some extra water to the canned food to ensure good hydration.

One other canned food you could try is Nature's Variety Limited Instinct. Definitely check the ingredients to make sure it doesn't contain any of the stuff your cat is allergic to.

Raw and home cooked diets may be an option. Cats who have food allergies often do well on these diets. Urinary issues on these diets is pretty rare but do happen to some cats but those cases are usually due to stress and not the diet itself. There's a forum here on TCs that has more info about raw and home cooked diets: http://www.thecatsite.com/f/65/raw-amp-home-cooked-cat-food

Thank you for the info and the links.  I see that she did pee tonight and was glad for that.  She's pretty laid back right now and my other cat Vinnie is staying by her side. He loves her so.
