Hi

I have a 3 and a half year old cat called Lola.  She is a wee gem but she likes to ruin things especially scratching the carpet.  I have looked this up and have bought her scratching mats which I keep topped up with catnip spray as I found out she is a horizontal scratcher.  We have a long hall and its the carpet in the hall that she likes to scratch.  There are times that she will use the mat to scratch her claws but there are other times she likes to dig the carpet up.  I know there must be a way to stop it as me and my wife just need to give her a suitable alternative.  Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Have you tried corrugated cardboard scratchers? Our cat completely stopped scratching the rug when he was introduced to them. He doesn't especially like the scratching mats our last cat used.

we have got a cardboard scratcher that sits on top of a cardboard base so its on a slope like a triangle. Would one of these do? Or is there better examples?

How about putting a carpet on top of the hallway carpet so that one gets ruined.  Walmart has inexpensive ones.
