My husband and I were having a garage sale when a stray mother pit bull with her pup came into our yard. She was aggressively friendly, jumping up  on people and they were getting mad. So my husband led the mother and baby in our back yard. But my cat Buddy was in the enclosed patio. When the pit bull saw the cat she started attacking the cat through the security screen door. My cat was all puffed up and scared and I tried to separate them and Buddy ripped into me bad. Blood gushing everywhere from my veins in my hand. Buddy has always been loving to me, he is over 10 years old. My husband no is mean to him and wants to get rid of him, but I still love him and I want to forgive him. Why would he attack me when I was trying to protect him?

Buddy panicked because he was being attacked by the dog. Any time a pet owner tries to physically separate fighting dogs and/or cats there's a very high chance of being bitten or scratched. Buddy was fighting for his life. To be honest, your husband is responsible for your injuries because he put the dogs in the yard where Buddy was within reach.

Your cat was scared and in fight mode. All he could see was that frightening big dog and anything touching him or near him, was also a threat. Don't take it personally. You cat loves you but in that moment, your cat was scared to death.

Next time, I would not approach your puffed up frightened kitty unless necessary. I would rather approach the dog and take him away instead of the cat. The dog may be bigger, but they're easier to snap out of an aggressive mode.
