Any ideas on breed?

Hey there, I took my cat to a new vet the other day (nothing serious, just for his booster shot) and they asked me the breed. I had no idea, and have been curious since! I got him three years ago from a shelter as a kitten. Here he is back then:

As you can see he is mostly pure white with medium short hair (it's extremely thick and soft, more so than any other cats I had as a kid), though as a kitten he had a pronounced black patch on his head and also about half way up his tail. These have both faded with age and there are now only a few black hairs in each spot (his post-bath picture shows this best, he needed it as he went to the toilet on himself in the car!).

Here he is at three (first four pics) and two (last two pics):

As you can see, he is very handsome and huge! Weights about 6kg and isn't fat at all. Very long limbs and tail and has quite a liking of water, as you can see where he's playing in the mist from the hose in the last picture. He's also obsessed with the sink and will sometimes want to come in the shower with me, where he stays out of the main stream of water but enjoys the experience.

Personality wise, he is a very odd cat. He plays fetch with his toys like a dog would, and also plays hide and seek with me. His favourite is seeking, where I'll often hide behind a corner and he will tear out and jump at me, usually at around face level, but he never hits me or uses claws. He has nearly scared me to death a few times though when I'm walking down the corridor and don't realise that we're playing though. He's extremely sociable in that he always wants to be in whichever room that I'm in, though he only allows me to pick him up for a cuddle twice a day (when we wake up in the morning and when I return from work or uni). Any other time and it's all struggling and loud meows. My friends all think he's horrible and can't stand him and he'll make his displeasure very known if I have a female friend stay over and she takes his side of the bed.

Any ideas? Could he be some form of pure bred or cross breed that didn't make the cut so they send him to the cats home? Or is he just a very white domestic moggie? Any ideas appreciated as I would like to know! Also happy to answer any questions as I like to talk about him
 Thanks!

I should also say, he is very vocal! He says hello with one kind of meow (almost has a vibrating effect to it), says he missed me with very high pitched, short meows (how he greets my return if I go away for a week or two and leave him with my parents) and says he wants something with a low pitched meow. If he wants to go out a door he doesn't say anything, just bashes on it with his paw.

Just noticed this thread also, what an uncanny resemblance!

Will look up a bit of info on these 'foreign white' cats.

Thank you! I passed on your compliment to him

Not even sure if this is relevant or if I'm just being ridiculous now, but I also like to think that he is highly intelligent (but I might also just be highly too obsessed with my cat!). Reason being that, apart from the playing fetch and what not, he also understands a few basic words. If I mention him in conversation he will always look at me, he knows that "dinner" means it's time to eat (no matter what tone of voice I say it in) and if I ask him to get off the bench he gives me a disapproving meow and doesn't do it until I'm almost walked over to him. He has also only ever used his claws on me in anger once, and that was when I was trying to introduce him to a new kitten that my sister had (we rent together) and he really wasn't down for it. Usually if I annoy him he just gives gentle bites. I'm going to stop rambling about my cat now, as I fear that even on a cat forum I am starting to sound a bit nuts!

So I'm surfing the web trying to figure out what type of cat I might have and come across your post my cat looks just like yours except she's a girl. She also plays fetch and loves to sit in the shower. Very vocal. Soooo much like your cat that I made an account just so I could write you lol. Sorry I don't have any insight but am looking forward to what you learn!

Eyes are greenish and I live in Australia, haha. I'd never heard of this breed before but he sure does look like some of the pictures of them! I always thought maybe he had some Turkish Van in him but this looks like it could be even closer.

Did you see that other thread I linked, Dolly? He is very similar to both of our cats too!

How green do they have to be? I had a look to see if I could find a better picture of my cats eyes, but I don't seem to have any. Do White Russian's have any other characteristics that I should be looking for? Thanks!

Its shall be deep green, loud and clear.  But not all are show quality, and I can imagine an individual of pet quality (perhaps because the eyes arent really good green)  will be sold cheaply as pet quality.   And thus, very easily become of "unknown origin"

Sorry, I dont know much about Russian white. They arent common at all, and they are mostly in Australia, and probalby some in USA.    I myself I do own Russian blue of the Scandinavian type.  The only sure advice I can give is you google on them.
