Hi everyone!

I have a 7-week old Maine coon kitten and I'm having issues getting her to walk to the litter box on her own when she needs to go potty.  She knows exactly where the box is, but she still cries at me to physically carry her to it.  If I don't do so, she tries to eliminate in a nearby corner.  What are your suggestions on getting her to seek out the box independently?

She also has issues properly burying her excrement when she's done.  She tries her best, but most of the time she scratches the side of the box attempting to do it.  I've tried showing her several times, but she still has trouble.  Is this something she just figures out on her own eventually, or is there something more I could do? any input is greatly appreciated!

Summary:

-How do I get her to use the litter box independently without having to carry her to it as per her demands?

-Is it possible to train her how to properly bury her excrement, or will she eventually figure it out on her own? if possible, how do I show her?

Try Kitten Attract litter.

Is the litter box too high? Kittens can't always get into a regular size litter box. Try a lower sided box or use something as a step for her to get into the box, such as an old phone book or empty shoe box.

Some cats just don't cover up their poop
They've probably learned how to from their mom but just don't for some reason. I don't think anyone here has ever successfully trained their lazy cats to cover up the poop. There are threads on the topic:

Thanks for the input! the I did make sure the litter box I bought for her was low enough for her to climb into on  her own.  I just think she's gotten lazy because I've always taken her to it when she tries to eliminate in inappropriate places.  She has no issues using the box when I put her in it, it's just getting her to take the initiative to go to it on her own.

Luna has started seeking out the litter box on her own as of a couple days ago!!

She still sucks at covering up her poop, but I can live with that! I clean the box multiple times daily anyway.
