So my 15 year old cat Turtle and I just moved into a new home About 3 weeks ago. For the past 6 years or so, Turtle has been my only pet and over the course of her life she has only moved twice. We now have a roommate with a similar situation, an older established cat (15 as well) and up until a couple days ago, the move was going unbelievably well for Turtle.
She's very stubborn and set in her ways like most older cats, and I expected the move to be really hard for her, but it didn't turn out to be. She has been mostly confined to my room, and about a week ago I started letting her explore the rest of the house while my roommates cat (Flo) was locked up. She was getting more and more confident, exploring farther and farther each time. I was amazed! No spiteful pee puddles, she wasn't hiding all day, in fact she seemed very content!

A couple days ago my roommates daughter brought home a feral kitten with the intention of bringing it to her fathers house the next day, obviously the very presence of a young cat in the house was upsetting for both Flo and Turtle, but since I knew the kitten was leaving I didn't worry too much.
The first night it was here, the feral kitten somehow managed to escape from it's room and we collectively spent 20 hours trying to locate the missing kitty. We did find it, but in the process it seems that my roommate has fallen in love with the kitten. Undeniably, I adore it too. However, Turtle is already going through so many new changes!

Between her and I moving out of my parents house, me having a new boyfriend(she gets jealous), and moving into a house where another adult cat lives, Turtle has a lot on her plate! I am concerned that if my roommate keeps this kitten, it'll be too much for her.

Any input on this situation would be welcomed warmly. I'm very worried about it, although part of me feels that I am overreacting. Turtle has been doing really well so far.

What do you guys think?

Let her show you how it's going---if she's fine so far, don't worry! Some cats are pretty good with other cats, some aren't.

I will warn that many kittens get very naughty as "teenagers" so make sure the older cats have private areas where they can go to escape kitten antics. You can always close the door to your room if she wants private time.
