About a month ago my 2 yr old male cat started urinating small amounts in corners of my living room. It started out with a little blood in it so we took him to the vet. She gave him an anti inflammatory and antibiotics and said she thought it wasn't anything serious, and those meds would take care of it. My cat stopped peeing blood after that but continued to pee in the same spots. Everytime he did it I thoroughly cleaned the carpet. I started to wonder if he was spraying. He is fixed. His litter is clean and I haven't changed the type of litter or his box for about a year. Nothing has changed in his environment. I purchased the Feliway spray and used it as directed. He Continued to pee and in larger amounts. I rented a Rug Doctor carpet cleaner and cleaned the carpet. He has still continued to urinate.
I have 2 litter boxes. My house is very small, One story. I don't know what else to do or why he would start this after 2 years.I'm in the process of trying to get pregnant and I can't live in this environment. Please help.

Hi Tdk88, welcome to TCS!

The first thing I'd recommend is a second trip to the vet. Sometimes UTIs can hang in there even after the cat has gone through a full run of antibiotics. They can be unfortunately stubborn that way.

When you mention thoroughly cleaning the carpet, did you do so with an enzyme cleaner specifically for cat pee? The thing with cat pee is that they can smell it long after we've cleaned it up, and they'll likely keep going back to those spots. If you have used an enzyme cleaner and you're sure that your cat is completely over his urinary issues, you can try blocking his access to those spots (putting a small piece of furniture in those corners) or getting an attractive litter to help re-direct him to the box. Cat Attract works well for a lot of people, and you'd only need to use it until he got used to going back in the box. If possible, could you try adding a second litterbox? Some cats develop a dislike of urinating and deficating in the same box.

I'm sure some of our other members will be along soon with more ideas, but here are also some good links to threads and articles about inappropriate urination. Hopefully something in here will help. I've also included the link about spraying, since you mention he's male...just in case.
