My cat was picked up from the vet on Wednesday from having perineal urethrostomy surgery. He seems to be in pain and not wanting to move is this normal behavior?

From what I have seen here and heard from someone at my vet's that had this done it is a big deal and this is probably normal.  Is your kitty eating?  Another big concern is that he is peeing okay.  A common complication is the site recloses from either inflammation or scar tissue.

Of course any concerns should be brought up to your vet especially if you live in the U.S. since this is a holiday weekend.

My cat had a PU in the fall. He didn't really eat or drink anything and was really, really lethargic four days post op. I took him back to the vet and he received fluids via IV for dehydration overnight. After that, he was fine. It was still a struggle to get him to eat though until his stitches were removed, but he's absolutely fine now and we've had no issues knock on wood.

I'd take him in just to get checked out. If he's eating and drinking and using the litterbox, he's probably just in pain, but you can never be too with animals. They tend to hide pain super well.

Did they send him home with pain meds and antibiotics? This being such an extensive surgery I would imagine he is in pain if they didn't send him home with any meds. Hopefully they gave him a pain injection before he left the clinic. Is he eating/drinking okay?
