Hi there fellow cat folks. I'm new, first time posting.

My 10 year old Maine Coone mix has a strange little lump on his foot in between two of his toes the same colour as his pads. It's not tender, bleeding, warm, or throbbing, and he doesn't seem bothered by it at all. He let me touch it, and even squeeze it, without objection.
I don't want to put him through the stress of a vet visit if it's nothing, but I also don't want to assume it's nothing and it be something. Even though I'm sure I'll end up taking him to the vet, I'd like to know if my panic is justified first haha

Hi and your sense of humor is appreciated :)

Does he go outside?  Possible contact with other cats?  Any other similar bumps?

I have one other cat (I've owned him for 6 years, and the boy I'm concerned about for just over 10 years), and they're both indoor cats. They do go outside sometimes but always supervised, as we live in a very densely coyote populated area. We also have three dogs, although they stay the heck away from him because he's big and mean. This is the first bump that I've spotted, and he got a full body check to see if there were any more.

I would have the vet examine it soon. My previous cat (indoor only) had a similar lump on his paw once. It didn't bother him at all. I took a picture and emailed it to the vet. The vet immediately scheduled us for an appointment. The vet thought it might be a benign tumor. Surgery was scheduled to remove the lump. The vet surgeon was able to remove the lump with clean margins and took a biopsy for testing. The lump turned out to be a trichoblastoma, a type of basal cell tumor of the hair follicles.

I hope your cat's lump isn't anything too serious

Thank you so much for the info! My immediate thought when I saw it was "tumor", but had absolutely no idea what to search, and was getting zero results. I'm glad that I've gotten some confirmation that I wasn't jumping to the "worst case scenario" for nothing.

Hope your cat will be ok
The lump may be something completely different from what my cat had so only your vet can determine what is really is.

Well it doesn't look like ringworm, although bald spots could be that but they usually spread, it could be the result of a minor wound that he got and healed without you noticing, he could have pulled the hair out grooming in theory, or it could be some as yet undiagnosed skin condition. I wouldn't panic, but a vet visit is always a good idea.

I think it's always better to have lumps checked out while there still small enough to easily remove. The vet I work for says that growths in cats are more worrisome then growths in dogs. I guess cats don't normally get as many benign lumps as dogs.

Hi, hope you are well! I've just come across your message and my cat has a very similar growth on her paw. Have you ever found out what this was? Thanks for your help. x
