We picked up a feral cat that has upper respiratory infection.Took him to the Vet with greatest difficulty he managed to give the cat a Antibiotic that will last for a bout 2 weeks as well as a b12 injection as we were unable to give him any meds orally.

We kept the cat to monitor cos' he doesn't eat or drink anything. He is now a bit friendly towards us so we feed him with a syringe (water mixed with food )

I have a humidifier set up in the bath room ( that's where we have kept him since we have cats at home ) but he keeps dripping from the nose is so congested.I feel this is why he doesn't eat too.

Any idea what else I can do to relieve him of the congestion ? Also I feel he is still running a bit of fever. I did call the Vet and asked if they could prescribe anything for the congestion and fever of course they wouldn't ,wanted me to bring the cat again.

Last time we took him he got so scared he literally climbed up the wall..

Any thoughts any one ?

Will he eat a pill pocket? (See link below, not you can get them at pet stores and vet offices).  If he will, then you can give him an antibiotic by pill form in the pill pocket.  In addition to the humidifier, 15 min twice a day in the bathroom with the shower going on hot can help a lot, and if he will tolerate it you can get non medicated saline drops for kids, often called Little noses and give a couple squirts in each nostril 2 times a day.

If you can touch him then he isn't feral.  In fact he isn't even semi-feral, he just may be a bit under socialized or nervous. :-)

A feral cat could not exist in the same room with you at all.  A semi feral will allow himself to be in a room with you but generally will never tolerate being touched.

Thank you for the reply.

I will check at the pharmacy for the kids saline nasal drops.I didn't turn the shower didn't want to alarm him with the noise. But will try it.

He is friendly with us cos we have been feeding him from time to time for the past 1 1/2 yrs.

So I guess you can say he's semi feral :) He has lost so much weight it's rather sad to see.

Thanks again will update his progress.
