I have read that cats really need a vertical space to climb. I would rather my kitten did not climb curtains so I want to get her a cat tree. The problem is that the only (and the best) place for the tree is right in the corner of my eating area in the kitchen, right by sliding glass doors. However, that area is fairly small so a tall tree with a large footprint would make it impossible to pull out chairs on one side of the table. If I was to get a tree with a smaller footprint, then the tree would also have to be much shorter so that it would not topple over. This presents a problem because a shorter, safer tree may not be enough to offer the climbing exercise that a cat needs.

Should I wait until I bring the kitten home and see what her personality is  before spending big bucks on a tree?

What brand/type of cat tree would you recommend?

I like Armarkat and Kitty Mansions brand cat trees.

As for size...
First and foremost it needs to be stable. Measure to see what dimension footprint will work for the space you are considering. Most of the trees I have have a base of 24" by 22" base. Anything smaller than that is likely to not be very stable, unless it can be secured to the ceiling or wall.

I would go with a height of at least 60", though if you find a tree you really like that offers perches and condos that is slightly shorter, ok.

Congrats on the new addition!!

I have two cats and one is usually sleeping in the cat tree. They love it:nod: I got mine at
Petsense they are reasonably priced and well made. My cat tree was already assembled so I could measure it for space issues. I think they are so worth the money! Congrats on your kitten and cat tree purchase!

Is this the cat tree you bought at Petsense? I like it!  How tall is it? Is it covered in carpet or plush? Do you know who makes it? I don't have any Petsense stores near me.

Yes it is carpet. I got it at Petsense I think it's Classy Kitty brand its 65 inches tall . I think it was around $130.00 but that was over 3 yrs ago. I have to vacume it every once in awhile and trim it up with scissors. Amazon has Classy Kitty cat trees but i don't know if they come preassembled? I would be scared to try to assemble one I am not handy! My Fantasy Forrest has awesome cat trees but they are out of my price range for now $1000.00 for the Enchanted Cat Tree I really want ( maybe someday).

I have been searching on Amazon for a good tree and actually decided on a company named North American Pet. They are made in USA and that is very important to me. They have tree models that are called Classy Kitty but I also saw another brand on Amazon that has trees that are also referred to as Classy Kitty and that brand is Bob Cat. Do you have any idea is yours was made by North American Pet or Bob Cat?

I bought ours from Chewy.com with free shipping and had it in two days. It was easy to put together. I have 3 cats and run up it and it doesn't flinch.
