Trying to find a good cat groomer; no luck. Silicon Valley area No. California

Hi Everyone, my 10 year old female Maddy is a beautiful long-haired rescued kitty, we've had her since she was a kitten. Always a "hair and nails" kinda gal - fussy about having her nails clipped, but  loves being brushed up to a point.  She got very stressed out during  our kitchen remodel earlier this year (Jan 20 to March 6) and since then she's responded by pulling out her hair around her haunches and her tail.  Her dander is incredible - sometimes she jumps around "shaking" her skin - don't know if it's allergies or stress or what (No fleas, we keep checking - and both she and her 7 year old med haired male company are strictly indoors).   We have an appointment next week with the vet, to see if it's allergies (could be food?) or what.  She's brushed and combed daily, but she's overweight so difficult for her to groom the area in front of her tail and spread the oil from that area.  She has never been bathed. 

In the meantime -  I feel at this point that having her beautiful long long coat clipped (i hate the term "shaved" - I do NOT want her skin showing)  would help with the hair pulling problem - and eliminate the dangerous hairball accumulation.  I TRY to get hairball remedy down her as often as possible - but she's a difficult case.  We've had a LOT of hairball barfing lately and it is scaring me.

I live in Los Altos CA - Santa Clara County - and am having one HECK of a time finding ANY CAT GROOMER/CLIPPER SERVICES. She's going to be incredibly stressed - the doorbell and strange people sending her fleeing to hide under the bed - whereas her companion comes out to greet everyone!

First your groomer question. I checked the National Cat Groomers site and here is a list of groomers in Ca - although I don't know if any are close to you or how current the list is.

Next, one thing not mentioned in the speculation about the cause is mites. Usually with food allergies it is the fur around the neck that they pull out. My guess would be it is stress related. It is also entirely possible that there is something environmentally causing the itching. Good luck and let us know what happens
