So, I've been reading about this so-called 'tortitude' that is said to dominate the personality of tortoiseshell cats, and I find it very funny because my tortoiseshell cat has the exact attitude described. So do the other two tortoiseshell cats that I've met over the years. Who else has tortoiseshell cats and what do you think about 'tortitude'?

I have three. Susy is a torbie and Mia is her tortoiseshell daughter. They're 5 and 4 years old now and they are both total divas. I also have The Mu, another torbie, and she is the sweetest, must chilled out cat ever. I think it depends a lot on the individual cat rather than their colouring.

Have you see our thread for torties, torbies and calicos?

I had two tortoiseshells and one calico.  They were definitely determined in their mind-sets, but I don't think they are really any different than any other cat.  I had never heard of 'tortitude' until I took Angelina (my avatar) into the vet for one of her checkups.

OMG does she ever have tortitude.  I was just telling Pam about all the irks Autumn has and now I know it's just her being a typical tortie.

She always answers me back and lets me know in no uncertain terms when she wants to eat or play or just to get my attention.  She has to have her own way but she will run when I raise my voice but while she's running away she is also yelling at me, go figure.

Having said this, she is also a very loving kitty and very sweet when she wants to be but she is definitely a big mouth

Angel, Angelina's predecessor, was very talkative.  I put it down to her having some oriental blood in her background.  She definitely had a curse word--and we recognized it as such--which she used when thwarted in something she wished to do.

You know, our Ms. Pepe is the sweetest, most loveable little brat who's ever lived. She was nothing but trouble when she was younger. As a kitten, she tried to burrow into my high-top sneaker head-first....and couldn't get back out. She's the one who loved to lick and chew on plastic. She's the one who chewed right through the cord of my computer mouse. She tried to get into the space between the stereo receiver and the shelf above it...she got caught and I had to get her out. She's the one whose claw got caught in the doily when she tried to jump down from the top of the tv and ended up smashing a crystal vase into the living room heating register. I could go on and on.

She's always been a talker and now that she's an Old Lady (she just turned 19), she's gotten to be quite demanding in her old age. Sit down on the couch and she'll be on your lap quicker than you can even think, talking to you and kneading the whole time. I swear that girl can meow in her sleep and chances are, she's yelling about something. The other night, I awakened to a cat muttering....I sat up in bed and it was Pepe and she was giving something heck. In her sleep. Talk to her and she'll answer you. Don't talk to her and she'll tell you what she thinks anyway. Tell her to please be quiet and she'll just meow at you anyway. She does not know how to be quiet.

She has tortitude written all over her beautiful face. I always tell her that she's lucky she's so cute.

I know I've posted this picture on TCS a bunch of times, but this is my good girl Daisy on her paper towel mountain.  She most definitely has tortitude.

Turtle is very similar! I cannot believe how much she talks to me. I recently moved in to a new place and my roommate has a cat who does not meow at all and it has really made me notice how much Turtle does!
She is constantly chirping, trilling, yelling, mrowing, and purring to let you Know what she's thinking. The spoiled princess

Even when she takes up all of my pillows, gets litter and fur all over my bed, and makes me leave a night light on I can't really get upset with Turtle.

Tippi doesn't make much noise at all , she doesn't purr , very rarely she will make a really quiet little meow.

So I don't hear much vocal tortitude from her.

She is a very sweet natured cat mostly , she can be a Diva sometimes if she wants to sit where Tallulah and Ruby are sitting she will muscle in shift them .

She can get rough play fighting with Ruby , if she can catch and grip her that is

I had a tortoiseshell cat in England when I was 12. She was quite normal until myddad mowed the lawn. She'd go up our apple tree and when he came underneath she turned into a tiger and would attack his head!!!!! Unfortunately dad was bald so he always had scratches on top of his head.

Honestly.. I like their attitude.
I don't have one but I think maybe my Angel who is a Russian Blue mix is a tortie at heart. She's sassy and spunky. :)

That sounds just like my tortie. Her name is Autumn too. When I tookher to the vet for the first time though, the vet saw the white on her stomach and back feet and said it looked like she couldn't decide whether she was tortie or calico. She's definitely got tortitude but since then, I've called her a tortico.

My cat Gigi Bella has tortitude, but she is all black. Her momma was a tortie and when Gigi was a baby you could see patches of color in her fur when she was in the sun. My husband jokes that she is really a dark tortie (as opposed to muted or dilute) and not actually a true black cat. She has the classic tortie body shape and fur texture too.

Sakura (on the right in my avatar) most definitely has tortitude. She likes to pick fights with the other cats like her housemate Charvone and my parents' cat Fry (both males and around the same size) when we visit, but gets angry really easily. She really hates it when they fight back (even when they are not even being too rough at all), or when they try to initiate the play-fighting from their end. She is much rougher to the boys than they are to her but they don't seem to mind much.
She continuously claws couches, even after being told not to and being redirected to the appropriate surfaces. She abducts plush toys and my two pairs of fuzzy socks. Sakura always has to be the center of attention, too. If I or another family member is trying to play with Charvone or Fry, she'll show up and chase the toy. Every time people eat food in her presence, she has to sniff the food, and will try to take some for herself if she likes the smell. She seems to always be hungry despite stealing bites of Charvone's food but doesn't seem to gain any weight. Sakura hates being alone and has to be near someone whether feline or human. She'll go sulk if she doesn't get what she wants (like when Charvone doesn't want to play tag, hide n' seek, or wrestle). She'll try to help make the bed, sit in front of the TV or computer screens, or drag toys halfway across the house. She is constantly talking, usually via trills. I would say that Sakura is definitely a Diva Kitty.
