My vet told me awhile ago that she's a mainecoon, she's 2.5 yrs old. Her coat kinda looks bangle almost? (will post photos in comments)

I can agree with you, with that clear a red splotch he should be a tortie, ie being a tabby too - a torbie.

Using by the owner the wording a classic mackerel tabby, sounds peculiar, as  the two big branches of tabby is  either mackerel tabby (the striped version) or the classic tabby (bulls eye).

I suppose its possible to say classic mackerel, it sounds good and proper, the problem is, it sounds also as an contamination, a mix up of things...

Anyway, a handsome guy  (or a hefty lass! )

She may be a maine coon of sorts.  Or more probably, one of the natural population from those the Maine Coon become pure bred from.  THAT natural population are still there...  Its why we do see so many Maine Coon somewhat look alikes...

The pattern is called for classic tabby.   Are also sometimes called for marbled or blotched.    Quite a few bengals do have this pattern, nicely refined, on bengals they usually say marbled - although its essentially a classic tabby.   That is surely why you say almost bangle...    :)

Good luck!

They are truely beautiful cats. Pictures do not do them justice, but once you see them in person and look at those stunning set eyes. They remind me of a Lynx.
