I'm hoping someone here can help me. I adopted a 4 year old cat last summer and for the first 9 months or so he ate a half can of wet food in the morning and I left his dry out for him to munch on throughout the day. He has loose stools but otherwise was a healthy, playful kitty.  For the past couple of weeks he has slowly stopped eating his wet food and for the past few days only eats a few bites of his dry food.  He stopped covering his pee in the litter box, so I got a bigger box thinking it may have been too small (I read that in these forums) but now he won't use the new box. He stopped coming downstairs and sleeps in my spare room on a box (I use the room for storage) and so I put his old litter box up there and he does pee in it at least.  For the past few days he doesn't leave my bedroom or get off my pillow except to go to the spare room to pee and then it's back on the pillow. Until today where he went to the corner of my bedroom and peed and pooped on my floor and then jumped up and laid on my laptop. He does drink water without issue and like I said, he is peeing but has only pooped twice in the last week and I figure that's from not eating any real food.

My question is: Can anyone help me figure out what's wrong with him? I'm on a limited income and can't afford a vet right now. The ones in my area do not take payments and I got turned down for Care Credit. If any of you have a home remedy that I can try to help him, it would be most appreciated. He's lost almost 2 pounds and for a kitty, that's a lot.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

He's in deep trouble.  No there are no obvious home remedies, we don't even know what's wrong with him. We can't diagnose him for you.  He needs a vet.

ALL of these signs point to something seriously wrong with your kitty. Please get him to the vet immediately. Don't wait.

I'm sorry to hear your cat is not feeling well. This progression sounds very serious though. He really needs to go to a vet and I hope for both of your sakes you can find some way to make that happen. The symptoms are obviously of a serious problem but we are unable to tell what sort of problem over the Internet without an exam. He needs medical care as soon as possible.

Don't let this go over money.  Talk with your regular vet & see if he is willing to help you out with a payment plan.  If not apply for a CC if you can.  As the others have said this is not going to be solved with a home remedy.

I want to thank you all for your help with Georgie and apologize for not responding sooner. I took Georgie to the vet on Tuesday (26th) and found out he was in complete kidney failure. After telling the vet his symptoms and the short amount of time he'd been acting different, she surmised that it was more than likely a hereditary thing and there wasn't much anyone could have done. I had him put to sleep so he wouldn't suffer anymore and the vet said we could try meds but they more than likely wouldn't help him.

I am truly thankful for all you responses and again, I apologize for not responding sooner. Georgie is better now :)
