I wanted to share with you and thought you could give me some explanation because we feel helpless on this story.

we have 2 daughters and we recently adopted a new cat for them. he was around the age of 7 months old when we  got him into the family. we had him for the past 4 months. we were about to send him to the vet to get him sterilized, but sadly he died a week before the appointment. he was very active and was always fighting the cats around the house to make his territory. but at home, he was an angel, very sweet and calm, affectionate, the perfect cat. about a week ago we took care of an abscess he had on his paw. it seemed fine cause it was no longer swollen and he was running like a champ like before.

the reason of death is not known... I found him collapsed under my wheelbarrow at 6 PM (it has been 2 days since we didn't saw him). the neighbor told us that they saw him during the morning. all his corpse was stiff, but the leg under him. (one of my ambulance friend told me it could be because all the blood went there after his death).

in his mouth, few eggs of flies. I'm guessing he died during the morning.... so sad cause he was so young.

my girlfriend is making all sort of scenario like: its the neighbor, they killed him because he was fighting with their cat.  he was probably poisoned.

to be honest, I think it's a car hit and he bled his life to death inside his body or something like this. it's just so sad, our daughters are pained and we are shocked that he died so young.

It's now my 4th cat I loose in 7 years (one got hit in front of the house at 2 years old, the others were lost and never came back). we still have a 4 years old one, he doing well. but I feel like every time I get a new cat he's going to die anytime soon. I don't get it. when I was young we had that cat named "Pachat" and he last 19 years!!! that how I remember how cat is suppose to live. same for my girlfriend, she also had cats that was with her for more than 15 years.

one spiritual thing that I've noticed, he died with his head right in front of a flower ... what are the odd.

when I buried him, I've unrooted the exact same flower and placed it over his tomb.

I am very sorry you lost Muffin. It is now impossible to say what killed him, he could have had blood poisoning from the abscess, he could have been hit by a car, it could have been something genetic, but whatever it was, the effect on you and your family is the same. I too had outdoor/indoor cats for 40 years of my life, and they all lived to a good age, but after I lost three on the road and then one from poison, I now keep mine inside. I think everything is just so much more dangerous now that it used to be. Just as children used to walk to school, now most people would not dream of letting a young child out on its own. It is a reflection on our world.

I'm so very sorry for the pain you are going through, I too think that my outside cats have a shortened lifespan. The only way to protect them properly is to raise them from the beginning to be an inside cat. My precious Chrissy was an inside cat and still died on the road right in front of me when I took her outside. There are too many reasons that could have caused your cat to die, from being hit by a car to a unknown heart condition that became apparent with a growing cat. It does absolutely no good to speculate as to the whys and what you could have done different, it only brings heartache and grief, and changes nothing.  You did nothing wrong to cause something like this, you loved that boy and wanted only the best for him. My heart goes out to you and your family, I'll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. Please know he would not want to be remembered with such pain, and will be kept alive forever in your heart. He was way too young to go, the heavens gained a beautiful angel.  RIP sweet Muffin, you were greatly loved and will never be forgotten!

I'm very sorry this happened. I know saying so means nothing. If you hadn't buried him you might have had an necroscopy done, much like an autopsy in animals. But it really wouldn't change anything. If you ever do adopt another cat, it might be best to keep them inside or in a fenced in type catio where they couldn't actually get outside or go too far.  You did adopt him and he had a home, please try to think of the good times you shared in his life. May he run free.

I am very sorry to hear of your sad loss. As the others have said, knowing what killed Muffin won't change things. It's better to let that go and just reflect on all the fun you had with him in the short time he was with you. I'm sending you and your family best wishes for only fond memories and happy times with Muffin.

Best regards.
