Who knows something about Tiki Cat?  I did not even consider it for my new cat because due to my ignorance I fed it to my precious Rizzo as I thought it was the best food.  It is really good food but as I could only find it in fish, that is what he got & would only eat fish from there on out.  I feel that he got IBD & then cancer from it.  Now I see that Tiki has Gourmet Carnivore & was wondering if anyone was feeding this.  My new cat & I have not really warmed up to each other but I want her to have the best chance of living a long & disease free life.    The expense is not a real problem because I can only have one cat where I live. Have been converting her to some raw & feeding Instinct so far.  I feel the problem with Instinct is the fat content so would like to find something better.

I don't yet know of anything to steer me away from Tiki Cat. Main issue is expense. Mine love the Puka Puka Luau, which is only shredded white meat chicken. I don't have a problem feeding them this except that I don't want to spend that much for every meal. I am mixing it with others. I haven't tried any of the Gourmet Carnivore line yet because I haven't found individual cans locally yet.

Nothing wrong with raw feeding or Instinct either really. Protein and fat are what you want in the food, with as little carbs as possible basically. I don't get really concerned about fat content unless there's some reaction in the cat or something. Higher fat would make a given amount higher in calories, but you can control that by adjusting the portion.

I would not feed Tiki exclusively because their proteins are either chicken or seafood. Seafood you don't want to feed too much of, and you don't want to feed exclusively one protein (chicken), either. So you do need to look at another brand besides Tiki Cat. Otherwise it is excellent food.

Our cats love Gourmet Carnivore -- we feed them almost all the non-fish flavors. I've ordered the food online but a local store may start carrying them soon. I hope so!

I agree with @2bcat about the fat, carbohydrate, and protein contents of foods: it's the carbs I watch most carefully, keeping those as low as possible, then the rest of the foods we feed have varied fat levels so things even out anyway. That said, yes, the Nature's Variety Instinct foods do look higher than even, say, the highest-fat Gourmet Carnivore foods. (For reference, Dr. Pierson on catinfo.org, suggests under 50% of caloric intake coming from fats and none of Gourmet Carnivore goes over that.)

@Raintyger: Tiki's Gourmet Carnivore line has foods with beef, various types of liver, and token amounts of lamb, turkey, and duck... though quite a few do have forms of chicken. I wish our cats didn't love chicken so much.

thanks everyone!  I will give it a try if I can find some individual cans at the store.  I am really concerned about the amount of fat.  No prey animal would contain this much & the catinfo site says they do this because fat is so much cheaper.  I don't plan to feed her just Tiki Cat cans.  Using Rad cat raw as well.  Don't know how Tiki compares to Instinct cost wise but if I am going to spend a lot as money on canned food it should be really good stuff.
