I rescued a kitten 6 days ago. At first his bowels were regular, but they turned to a green diarrhea, then very watery. He has had a change in diet multiple times. When i first got him on tuesday 5/12, i had him on whole milk, which he drank just fine, as he began to lap the milk up i switched him to wet food and whole milk 5/14 until saturday morning 5/16 . On saturday morning i decided to switch him to dry kitten food mixed with milk, which he wouldnt eat. so saturday night i went to the pet store to buy more wet food and the guy there told me i should have him on KMR step 2 formula, so i switched him to that saturday night and ever since then he hasnt had any wet food or dry food just the formula. Ever since i switched him to the formula hes had very bad watery stools. 5/12 TO 5/13 his stools were hard and normal in color. 5/14 to 5/15 they turned green but were still solid. 5/16 it turned to green diarrhea (kinda mushy) and 5/17 to current its very watery with no consistency to it at all. it has a greenish yellowish coloring to it. I dont see any present worms in the stool. he is very active with my other 3 9 month old kittens and loves running around, he is eating very good. Just not sure what to do. He has not had any shots yet.

You can't always see worms or parasites in the stool. There are several that can only be seen under a microscope. I don't know much about green pooh, but something is going on. Something that a vet visit would better determine what. Your choice of diet concerns me. You didn't say how old kitten is, But, either way you keep switching things up!  Have any of your kittens been to the vet yet?   If not, you are subjecting them all to either parasites, or worse some cat disease!  I strongly suggest you gather all 3 kittens and go for a group visit. Many vets have a wellness plan for our baby pet friends!

He is 5/6 weeks old. The only reason things got switched up was because a guy at the pet store recommended the formula to me and told me that was better for him then the wet food/whole milk combination, ever since i started him on that his poops got very watery, so im not sure if i should switch back to the wet food and whole milk cause he was doing a lot better on that. My 3 9 month old cats have been fixed and they've all had their shots. The new kitten has not though. Ive kept the kitten separated for the most part except to get some exercise for a couple hours during the day, the past 2 days. They say online the diarrhea could be from changing his diet to. I rescued my other 3 kittens but they never had anything like this.

Yes! Changing diet can do a number on pets!  I am sorry I missed the age range. That kitten is old enough for wet food. He probably had started eating solids before he became lost. I would just find a good quality kitten wet food, and just sort of stick with it a few weeks. Also, you seem to be a responsible cat owner, and it probably wouldn't hurt to take him in to see the vet. Also, most cats are lactose intolerant, so the regular milk could have started things off. If not, apparently KMR doesn't agree either! So just a good quality canned food.  I have read that the coating on dry food can become rancid very quickly (animal digest is used) and when dry is moistened, it can start growing bacteria!  Keep us posted! and Welcome to the Catsite!

I gave him straight dry food a little bit ago and he chowed on it. Should I just stick with the dry food if he can chew it? I didn't moist it down when he was eating it and he ate quite a bit of it.

Yes you can feed plain dry. I am probably the worst person to ask about dry food. It caused urinary problems in my old cat. Later on, I think it was a possible factor in kidney failure. I have not had dry food in my house for over 3 years! I just became so discouraged reading articles like "Food Pets Die For"  and Lisa Pierson DMV website, which basically promotes raw feeding. And basically, when comparing the cost of canned food, and who knows what these manufacturers deem healthy, complete, are actually way more expensive! Especially when you can often get chicken so cheap. So, that is my deal on feeding. But at this time, I have been feeding Sheba. Today I ordered Wysong and Evangers grain free, but they are quite a bit more expensive, but maybe not so bad because they were the 12 oz. cans. I have 4 adult cats.

I feed all the kittens I have blue wilderness kitten food. I haven't had a problem with it, its very expensive but it makes there coats very shiny and they are all very healthy. I'm going to let him eat on that for a week and see if that helps his poop problems and if it doesn't I'll bring him into the vet.

I think a lot of people on this site feed Blue Buffalo, Orejen, and the so called better dry foods. You should take a tour on this site, in the nutrition section. Lots of views on cat food!
