Hi,
Both of my cats (8mos old) are on medication. One for pain for a fractured leg, and the other takes amoxi drops for a cold. After discovering that they love ice cream (they pretty much attack us when we are eating it) I though I'd try giving them their medicine mixed in a teaspoon of ice cream. I did it this morning, and they lapped it up quickly. Is such a tiny amount of ice cream okay for a cat, or can it cause other problems?

It is not harmful, but it is fattening and if your cat is lactose intolerant it can cause diarrhea and stomach upset.

If you want a healthier option, I have seen :icecream: ice cream alternatives for pets, you just might have to look around.

Using ice cream is fine as long as your cats don't have any lactose intolerance (some cats get diarrhea from drinking milk as they get older). Amoxicillin can be mxied with food (including ice cream) but you should always check whether a medication should be given on an empty stomach or not & if the calcium in the ice cream might bind the medication - such as with tetracycline.

Make sure the ice cream isn't chocolate flavoured and is chocolate free. The preservative used in chocolate is toxic to cats.
