Have taken in a feral cats 4 week old kitten. Think will be 5 weeks tomorrow. Brought home Tuesday night and she has been eating kitten replacement formula. All seemed well, she was peeing in litter. Had first bm in litter on thursday afternoon, not too hard, not too soft. She was crying a bit when squatting in litter. Found out littermate had bladder infection. So brought her in to vets friday to check. She was 12 oz on friday, they seemed more concerned with the fact she wasn't pooping every day. So left her there for afternoon. When picked up her butt was so red and swollen and she had poop stuck to her fur. Once home her butt stayed sore, red and almost protruding. Had a couple rounds of diarrhea and the smell. My god, I've never smelt anything like it. Now she doesnt have diarrhea , just tries to poop and cries and has that foul smelling poop just hanging at her butt and in her fur. When I try to wipe it she goes crazy. I just picked up some bene-bac plus at the pet store. Will it help? She just today started eating royal canin baby cat soft food mixed with water. And I've started watering down her formula. I feel so bad for her.

Bene Bac could help there, it fact it would be one of my proposals.

Im not sure I got the pic clear.  It seems almost she got worse at the vet?  No especial problem on thursday, being at the vets the whole friday, and getting awfully smelling diarrheas, and difficulties to poo?   Did they told what they had done?

A guess they did some deworming, causing the diarrhea, and urge to poo more, but she hasnt more, so it pains her...   If so, it should get better in one or two days more.   Te change in food doesnt helps either... But as said the benebac should help, its one of the best probiotics around.

What kmr did you used earlier?   Exactly?

Another tip.  Can you get home raw goat milk?    If you are in the USA, raw isnt sold in the usual shops, but our forumites say many of the Natural Food grocieries do carry it.

Raw goat milk is mild, and also healthsome, cant hurt may help...

I hope my answer helped you and this kitten some!

Please continue to report and come wit further questions!

Tx for caring and helping this little one.

Good luck!

Thank you for responding. No issues before vet. Just worried she may also have had a bladder infection. They said they did get her to poop (my hubby picked up) i assumed by stimulation. They may have taken her temp that way? But she's been bad since home. Also sent urine for testing, no infection, but he did say alkaline(I think) was high, but would possibly get better once drinking water and eating solids. Nothing done about worming until I called on saturday, i had to pick up some milbemax 4mg. Gave her half a tab yesterday and give her the other half in two weeks. Kmr is made by PetAg. Just as I was typing she had a semi normal bm. Hopefully the beginning of something good.
I'm in Canada, im not sure where to get raw goat milk. Could start investigating. Thanks again!

Aha...  So why did she did that smelly poo... Possibly she got stressed out there... Perhaps she got also some sort of enema - as they though te problew was she ad constipation.  The bad smell is in part because of worms whom she surely has.    Anyways, as you write it begins to be better...

Milbomax has a good reputation, is quite mild and can be used even on rather small kittens.

it takes both rounds worms, which she surely has, and takes also tape worms, which she may have, if she was flea infested at some time.

PetAg is a good brand, their powder variation is perhaps the best of them all and what we recommend here as the preferred kmr .   Its esp the stage I which is the excellent.  Stage II  isnt necessary to use.   The liquid version is less awesome than the powder - but its sold in small cheap bottles.  Useful in many situations.

Yet, IF you can get raw goat milk, it may be still a good idea.  I would go for it, probably as extra if she eats real food too.  Or uses the PetAg KMR.

Bottled is OK too, but as you do have PetAgs KMR, its no big point with this.

Another useful alternative to the BeneBac may be a plain unsweetened mild, full fat youghurt.   In USA one forumist told me tey have a turkish youghurt of the FAGE brand, with added Acidopilus and Bifidus bacteria...  This must be some of the ultimate in many situations...  Both good nutrition, and also an useful probiotic...

Wat are you meaning with semi normal bm?   Kittens whom are still on kmr, "shall" have some sort of toothpaste consistency...   Some think they have rare poo - an adult would, but not these milk kittens...

Actually the poop was just like that. Good comparison. Bum is still red and sore. She has just started to clean in that area, so that is a good step. I've had her on the liquid kmr, so not the best powdered kind. I will try and look further into the raw goat milk and turkish yoghurt. She just seems dissatisfied. I know kittens/ cats like to keep themselves very clean. I guess she doesn't like her smell either. They wanted me to hold off on the deworming pill til tomorrow. I thought it would help so i gave yesterday. It is very effective? She had no fleas when checked at vets. Given time she would have, but within the last week or so we've still had below freezing weather at night. And they were born in a broken down car that was missing a door, right around my husbands car repair shop. People were going around the kittens so mama moved them outside under a wood pile. But I
guess the cold kept the fleas at bay.

So Lola is now 5 weeks old. Her bum seems in better shape, but she now has full blown diarrhea. Going maybe 4 or 5 times a day. And it seems to be tinged with bright red blood, but just a bit. She is eating and drinking well. Still having some wet food mixed with water. Still having kmr, half and half with water. Yesterday she started the royal canin baby cat kibble, she seems to really like it. Offering water on its own but she doesnt seem to care for it. Seems well, playful, running around playing, she even had me up all night. Should I be worried about the loose poop that seems to be blood tinged?
