I'm not convinced about the safety of leaving even freeze dried raw out all day. I use freeze dried raw myself, though, and it is very easy to use. My greyhound (who is almost as difficult to feed as Artie) goes nuts for it. It might be worth a go, even if you just keep it as a standby emergency food for when he won't eat anything else.
I agree in principle and in practice although Stella and Chewies freeze fried is fully pasteurized using something called high pressure sterilization that kills all bacteria.  Apparently its used on human foods as well all the time, i watched a video, very interesting.

Ah - the freeze dried over here isn't pasturised. Instead the factories have to be tested as free from a long list of bacteria, protazoa etc at about 5 different stages of the manufacturing process. Its the same standards that apply to the frozen pet food - both complete meals and plain meats/bones. No idea how they achieve it though.

Raw food is difficult but I give Mimi dehydrated freeze dried food , it's not frozen and you just mix it with water it's from Stella and chewy or sometimes I get primal. You can leave it all day and it's fine. It costs like $21 and it lasts 2 weeks maybe. Ibd kitties are sadly high cost
I spen a lot to the vets and food but once the cat is stabilized the maintenance is pretty easy. Bottom line avoid carrageenan and grain. Also you can order food online!
We feed our cats freeze-dried Stella & Chewy's and Primal, too: they're very easy to store, portion out, and mix into various blends and consistencies to keep the cats interested. Since the food's freeze-dried, it's dry and crumbly and doesn't look much like meat. It also barely has any odor. I used to get a little nauseated looking at RadCat chicken, which is very gloppy, but freeze-dried is easy!

I agree, too, about carrageenan and grains.

If you don't mix it with water you can safely leave it out like dry food. My cat likes it like this but only when I'm not at home for many hours!:D

I assumed it was rehydrated. I understand now.
You shouldn't feel silly, particularly since both those brands are available in frozen versions that don't need any rehydration! Keeping track of all these commercial foods can get confusing.

Yeah! The first time I went into mud bay I styled there for over an hour looking all the foods and reading all the labels lol. I was so confused. Trying to find the best Food for my cat. Oh I'm so glad they accept returns lol. So many foods my cat rejected :(

Artie ate some FF beef an hour ago. That makes almost an entire can of FF; 1/3 can of NV turkey; and a few kibble........He slept all afternoon on my bed. After eating he went to hide in his quilt tent which is on the coach. His usual routine, until I wake him up, for meds.....then he comes on my lap.

I am hoping he eats some more tonight....

Stella and Chewy's...hummmm, I think I bought a really tiny sample package of it the first time I went to the Pet Life Store, enough for one feeding...I think it is 8 oz........hummm, gotta look for it....I know I bought a very small bag of pumpkin also....hummmmm...

I think I will wait until after the biopsy, that is if he continues to eat and not vomit.....and wait for the results of the blood tests before I change things around. I want to see what the IM Vet advises first.....

Thanks all...I think I may be able to sleep well tonight and not spazz out as I did last night......((hugs)) to all.....my mind is fried.....nite nite.

so many people have it so much harder than I do...I am so selfish.....

Just a mention, but my Krissy's food allergy/sensitivity is chicken. Any and all.

Yet she is and has been doing great with turkey. Blue Buffalo basics limited ingredient turkey dry food and fancy feast turkey and cheese pate, turkey pate, and turkey in gravy. As long as there is no chicken or carageenan.

Go figure, so not necessarily poultry, just chicken.

You are not selfish. You've got a hell of a lot to cope with at the moment. I'd be going out of my mind with worry if I were in your situation. Besides, other people having it worse doesn't devalue what you're going through. Be kind to yourself. :hugs:

I'm so glad Artie did reasonably well yesterday - especially with his eating. Good luck with finding more foods he likes that like him back. Come on Artie - keep eating and stop giving your mom nervous breakdowns! :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

Update from last night.

When I got up, I saw that Artie ate everything I had left!! He had 1/3 can of the NV chicken, an entire can of FF beef and the rest of the kibble.....happy dance!!!

No Vomiting!!!

He is a bit constipated...More miralax...

But, unhappy dance.....He was so restless last night! I give him the Regalan just before I went to bed. He was so restless. I do not know if that is from all the sleep he got, for 2 days, or if it is side effect of the drug. He was circling around me in bed---top to bottom, was constantly tapping me on the shoulder to get up and play, and even resorted to going under the sheet!! First time every. He did not nest any where for very long. He was even trying to share my pillow with me!!! first for that also....

He finally ended up sleeping..He decided to sleep right next to me, in the area just below the pillow. In the area where there is a space between the pillow and sheet.

I almost turned on top of him a few times during the night! He would not move!!!

Artie has become much more clingy since this episode started. Yes, he runs and hides when he knows I am thinking of giving him some meds, but i will get them in.....

Today I am going to try NV Beef.....do not want to change too many things for him all at once....

thanks again...

We all love hearing good days for our loved kitties, so glad to hear no vomiting!!

You might want to try staying away from the chicken, it does sound like he may have a sensitivity to chicken.

For my Krissy, while I am positive that she had rarely even been given beef, so it is definitely out of the question that she had developed a sensitivity to it, I have found that she doesn't seem to tolerate it all that well. Might be harder to digest, I don't really know, but just in case he might not continue to do as well with the beef.

I would try using turkey, rabbit, pork for Artie more than chicken, beef or fish. Just my thinking.

Once he is back to eating better, I would work on slowly eliminating the variety of proteins and work towards getting him on one single protein, it's much easier on his system and we want to work towards getting that inflammation down asap.

Isn't it a great feeling to see him feeling better?!

Artie has eaten almost an entire can of FF chopped grill. He has turned his nose up at the NV beef....

He is sleeping now...

He has been following me around so fiercely...

I was stepping out of the shower, and he scared me. He was waiting for me on the rug!! Right next to the shower! He never did that!

He meowed at me a few times...I was talking to him. By the time I dried off, he was in the living room, on a chair, curled up!

I do not know if he wanted a better "quilt tent" or he wanted different food.  Or if he just wanted 'me'......

He has not eaten since then.

It is time for me to give him some more food.....

Yes, it is so good to see him feeling better, now to work on the food....

He ate really good yesterday and during the night...not much for him today..but the day is not over yet!!

I am so tired.. I mean I love when he cuddles with me. I miss it when he does not sleep with me, but then again, "I" cannot sleep when he is on top of me....right now, he is sleeping on my pillow, which is not good for asthma....but I do not want to shoo him away.. I think I may have to...my allergies are really bad and asthma also.....

sigh.. I am never happy....

So great he's still eating  Maybe see if you can persuade him to sleep at your feet instead of your head. At least you know he's not holding grudges over his meds ;)

Sounds like me :) I'd just change the pillowcase after he's done napping!

My cats rule me, we were joking about all of the ways we will slip out of bed to not disturb them or have to move them, literally acrobatics to accomplish this!!

It's nuts....

So glad to hear Artie is eating!  I hope his appetite stays with him!

One thing I forgot to mention, I emailed Purina and gave them details about what my cat was going through with his chronic diarrhea.  They sent me a booklet, a DVD, and some coupons for Purina cat food (Purina One I believe)  Unfortunately, I received the packet just a few days before I had to say goodbye to my cat....so I never read through the info or watched the DVD.  But, as I mentioned in my earlier, post, my cat had other health issues (diabetes, epilepsy)  Anyway, the DVD is entitled "Gastrointestinal Diseases in Cats" and it says it is from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.  So, if you have time, you might want to drop Purina, or any cat food company, a quick email and see what info/advice they can offer.

I hope Artie keeps getting better and better!

And even if you were selfish, it's not a bad word. Artie is your fur baby. You're supposed to be more concerned about him than about other people's cats.

I live in the Columbine Valley, in Colorado. (Yes, the valley that Columbine H.S. is named for.) On the day of the shootings, parents were shunted to another high school to await word on their children. Hoping, praying, that their baby was okay. And knowing all the time that if he or she was, it was because someone else's baby had died instead. Now, there's guilt for you, and completely undeserved. How could a parent not want her child to be well? How could she not care more for her own than someone else's?

Don't take on undeserved guilt. All it will do is complicate things. Keep your attention on Artie, and yourself. You've been here for all of us; it's time for ust to be here for you.

Margret
