Good morning.

Well, spring is well and truly here and suddenly all those flies and bugs and other creepy crawlies have emerged from nowhere again. I knew there was a reason I liked winter.

Today's question is, what kind of insect do you hate the most?

We get some pretty horrid ones here, but even though some of them are really ugly the only one I hate is the mosquito. I'm so allergic to their bites and they love the taste of me. I can be sitting with half a dozen other people and I'll be the only one getting bitten. How about you, what's the worst kind of bug for you?

I used to hate spiders most but now I think it's mosquito eaters. Those big bugs that fly around waving their long spindly legs all over the place. They're kinda like spiders with wings. And I hate how they'll land on a wall and sit there for awhile and the unexpectedly zoom straight into my face. Creepy little buggers.

I'm with you on mosquitos Norachan Norachan - they love me too :argh:

Also not keen on midges, and am scared of bees and wasps when they get near me (a wasp landed on my lips as a teenager - I didn't get stung, but it was still pretty scary).

Ok, don't laugh but for me it's ......................... Butterflies !

I am absolutely petrified of them. I think it's because they don't fly in straight lines, they flutter about and I can't tell which direction they are heading. Which is usually straight towards my face.

Makes me shudder just thinking about them :lol3:

Mosquitos and gnats are on an equal scale with me. They are both a horrible nuisance here in West Central Illinois. They love to bite and fly around your head and get in hair. Yuck!!!!! The more humid it is outside the worse they get  for our humidity. :(

I keep my windows closed and air on all summer because the gnats are small enough to get through the screens at night and are attracked  to light.

I hate mosquitoes too. They make it a mission to eat me alive, including in awkward places to leave huge welts like the centre of my forehead.

What are more common and here that I don't want to deal with are roaches (haven't seen one yet this year, thankfully) and centipedes. They don't do me any harm, but they do give me the heebeejeebies.

Centipedes.

I really hate a lot of them; spiders are right up there, especially since I was bitten by a poisonous one years ago - Brown Recluse.  But, I can manage to kill one off if need be.

But centipedes gross me out on a whole other level.  I'll let them speed off wherever they want to go.  I can not bear to put my hand anywhere need one.  Nor can my BF.

I'm a mosquito magnet, too!  And they welt up.  Ugh.  Fortunately we don't have much of a problem with them here.

What really creep me out, though, are what we call earth babies, aka Jerusalem crickets.  I hate it when I'm gardening and one pops up out of the ground or I turn over a pot on the patio and one is there.

Roaches have always been the bug I hate the most, they just turn my stomach.  I was going to say roaches but I thought we were only talking about the summer bugs.  I haven't seen a roach since way back in the 60's when I was still living at home.  Thank goodness for that.

I don't mind most bugs. Even if I think they're icky I can just ignore them/avoid them. But mosquitoes, ugh. Biting gnats too. Any bug that makes being outside nearly impossible, I can do without. The mosquitoes here go wild in the summer because they have to hurry before it gets cold again.

Norachan---I'm remembering those giant yellow poisonous centipedes that live in Japan and I'm glad I don't live there anymore :lol3:. I knew a guy who got bit by one and he was in the hospital for a long time because his leg went septic. I also remember those big black rhinoceros beetles that kids kept as pets, they were pretty cool though. And semis. They're a LOT bigger than American cicadas. They always scared me when I was a kid, even though I would put their skins on my shirt to freak people out :D.

Anything with a stinger.  I have had bee stings swell up on me.  I don't like spiders (and one jumped on me a couple weeks ago when I was getting my garden trellis' cleaned up for the year.)  But the stinging ones; I really try to keep distance from them!

DS is allergic to mosquitoes.  Last summer he got a bite on his cheek and it swelled so much the lower half of his eye was huge.  If the top had swelled so much; he wouldn't have been able to see much if at all.

Spiders, snakes and of course roaches. Growing up in the Bronx, NY and living in an old tenement apartment house I saw my share of roaches in those days.
Oh - also mice! Ugh!

Centipedes....ugh so gross. I see 1-2 of them a week lately and I act like a big baby and freak out every time. My daughter always comes running and says what's wrong mommy?

Being down south here, definitely roaches. Yuck!  mosquitoes & gnats come in 2nd, & spiders 3rd. Hate them all!  We can't sit outside in the evening & enjoy the weather down here, like you can up north, or in CA.

Tooooo many bugs!!!
