I've heard several folks comment on the success they've had with their cats with diarrhea when using the S. Boulardii strain of probiotics but has anyone used it for hairballs? I currently use Provobial and am curious if I should add S. Boulardii as well. Any input is appreciated.

Probiotics will have no effect on hairballs, I believe. They work by balancing the essential gut bacteria.

Well my thought was probiotics (a different strain such as S. Boulardii) = healthier gut = less inflamation = easier for hairballs to pass....but i was wondering if anyone had some thoughts or experience with this.....

S. Boulardii is used to treat candida overgrowth in the gut for humans.  I don't think it would help with hairballs.  Perhaps frequent brushing, increasing wet food (if not already on a wet food diet), reducing grains, and perhaps a daily dose of canned pumpkin in wet food would help with hairballs.

He is brushed daily, fed only a limited ingredient wet food and he hates pumpkin. Since I added SEB + digestive Enzymes + EYL + probiotics + vet's best hairball remedy, he is MUCH better so I think all of those have contributed to the passing of the hairballs. I was just wondering if I should add S Boulardii to the mix
