My 8 year old has a bad inner ear infection, on antibiotics, pain meds and anti-nausea. Biggest concern right now is he has vertigo and eye wobbling so badly he has not slept in almost 24 hours, he sees the vet again tomorrow but not until late. What to do! Will this lack of sleep kill him? Help!

I'm guessing by now he's probably BEEN to the Vet?  What did they say about the lack of sleep?  I've know of cats with the Vestibular disorder (vertigo), but never had anyone say they couldn't sleep with it, so that's a new one on me.   Poor baby
.  Hoping the antibiotics kick in soon to start clearing up the ear infection.

Yes back to vet. Interestingly she said as long as he could physically blink the lack of sleep was ok. She expects him to improve. He got injected fluids. Switched him off nausea medicine for Dramamine instead and stopped the pain medication which can cause dizziness. Still on anti-biotic for another 12 days. However if the vertigo is not better by Tuesday he will have an MRI to determine if the glands at base of ears need to be surgically drained. So now I have to go buy some baby food and try to syringe a tiny bit with water in him. However she did say she gave him enough fluid that he won't be dehydrated for 24 hours. Long story short, I did learn that the time vets become concerned about lack of sleep is when the animal cannot physically close its eyes. But otherwise it is just like having severe er twirlies for us. Poor little boy....

Well, since Dramamine is good for motion sickness, maybe it will help with the "dizzies".  I know meclazine is what they give humans for vertigo, and maybe it shares some of the same ingredients?

Learn something new everyday, huh (about the blinking thing)

for your little one
