I have a cat coming to call every evening a white male cat . He had runny eyes once but it seems to have gone now. I was wondering is there any way of cleaning his coat as it is of course grey white now.He is a beautiful friendly cat and I would love to find hima lovely home.. I would like to take him to someone who loves animals .I live in West London. The only problem is I'm sure he would miss my cat dreadfully. She is Mamoshka and she doesn't get along with other cats. The cat needs to go to a good Vet but money is a problem for me. I would like to find someone to give her a good home. I don't want the cat to be locked up as it will not like it at all . Can anyone suggest a good solution . I think my cat would miss him and he would miss her.I know I will miss him if I can find someone to take him. He also sprays as well at times which is probably after smelling my cat after she has been in the garden. Please has anyone got any good suggestions thank you from Allason

The first thing you must do is to be sure this cat does not already have a home. If he is coming round at the same time every evening it suggests he has somewhere to go the rest of the time, and his owner may be working and comes home and lets the cat out for a few hours. Cats are notorious for going where there is an advantage, and if he likes your cat and if he sometimes gets food, he will keep coming. Take him to a vet or an animal rescue to see if he is micro-chipped - this is a free service and could save his owner, if he has one, much grief. And ask around among your neighbours. You could also put a collar on him with one of those little canisters that normally are for the phone number, and put a message inside to contact you. He might not be advertised as missing because as far as his owner is concerned, he is not lost. He sounds as if he has had recent vet treatment for his eyes, and he maybe grey because his owner does not know how to clean him.

I agree completely with JennyR´ wise advices.

Also, you dont think he would like to be inside only cat.  IF you find he is homeless for real, it wont be that difficult to turn him into an inside only cat.  Being homeless, he knows surely the orrors of be forced to live outsside.  While home cats, who are both inside and outside, may be more difficult to get as inside only.

What I mean,  IF he is homeless, the best solution is YOU adopt him, as he is such a good friend with your resident.

If he does indeed has owners - very possible, you can perhaps talk them over into selling the cat to you, or admit it to you in some other way, some sort of trade perhaps...

I agree with JennyR too. The first thing you have to establish is whether this cat just likes visiting or whether he is genuinely homeless. A vet (or even a veterinary nurse) should be able to scan for a microchip. You can proceed from there. A collar asking his owner to contact you (if indeed he has one) is a good idea too. The uk law is that, with a lost/stay cat, there must be a three week holding period after 'rescuing' it before it can be re homed. If you do find he really is homeless, then StefanZ's idea of keeping him yourself seems like a good one. I would strongly suggest that he has a basic health check from a vet before you bring him inside, and deflea-ing and worming before he has contact with your girl is a wise move too.

My cat Mamoshka doesn't get on with other cats so I couldn't have him living with me unfortunately. He is quite an affectionate cat and loves to role around outside and he meow as well at times. Yesterday it was very wet in London after there rain and the cat waneed to come in to my place but it's so difficult cos of my cat . I don't want a Vet to put this lovely cat down. I heard that a respected Animal Centre puts the animals down so it really upsets me if I give the cat to this Centre. I doubt know the best Establishment to take him too. My cat always looks out of the window to see when he is coming. The only problem the cat has is spraying.I was giving to take him in and put him in my spare room as he was soaking wet but he seemed to want to stay outside but he also sat by the window looking soulfully in. I got upset as he was so wet but I thought he would go completely mad if he was shut up and he would probably start spraying around my spare room. I love animals so to leave him out when he was so wet broke my heart .I'm a big softy where any animal is concerned.

They will not put him down if you take him for a scan, to see if he is chipped. No vet would put him down unless he was very sick. You just take him in and ask them to scan him, and then you take him away again. It is free. If he is chipped then the vet will help you find his owner through the microchip company.

There are plenty of rescue centers that don't euthanise - Battersea Dogs Home for one.

JennyR is absolutely right - scanning for a chip is a free service. There are free and low cost clinics too that could even do a health check for you. You might have to travel a little further, but they're very good.

Well I don't drive and the cat has a tendency to spray . I haven't got the Money to go and get the cat checked unless it's free. The cat also comes very late at night and sometimes early morning to eat. I tried picking it up yesterday and it hissed at me. I just want the cat to be given a good home where it has a lovely garden as he has had such a horrible time. I would love to have the cat but my tortie doesn't like other cats and I'm worried she might get jealous and leave like some cats do. I might try Battersea as I think they will b good.

Battersea have their own veterinary clinic too. Also, PDSA vets are free, and I think Blue Cross ones are too. Just a thought.

Battersea is great - I got my greyhound from them and they're really thorough when it comes to re homing. The animals all seemed pretty happy too :)

Battersea is brilliant and they will check for a microchip, though it is also a free service at your local vet or shelter. But you honestly need to be sure the cat does not have an owner before you give it away.

:yeah: Just because he isn't easy to handle, it doesn't mean he doesn't have an owner.

My cat when she goes in her litter tray it smells like vinegar . What does anyone think the reason is for this . I give her a variety of food and biscuits. She had a problem with the cat I was feeding and has got a cut on her ear now. I HAVE cleaned it thoroughly and I HAVE to clean it again tomorrow. She has had all her jabs. I am going to try and make an appointment to c a Battersea Vet next week . I just want to get her thoroughly checked cos of her vinegar smelling urine which is very smelly tonite. Please has anyone got any good suggestions what it is . She doesn't drink a lot so possibly I think that might b the reason .

Yes, a vet visit is wise here.  It may be someting with her internal works, internal combustion, so to speak.   And drinking barely enough wont improve things.  Its necessary to flush out all by-products of combustion, especielly if they are faulty.

- I dont think it has any immediate connection with the cut in the ear, but possibly, it may be a effect of her being highly stressed in the brawl, and perhaps also, being stressed by the treatment. Lets hope that it this, and not some fault on the liver, or such...

Please report what did the vet told?
