I have a question. If kittens tested negative, is it likely the mom is also negative.

I have a question. If kittens tested negative, is it likely the mom is also negative.
Kittens rarely develop full blown FIV from the mom in utero (although it can happen) and they often will test positive or light positive and will later re-test as negative even though the mom was positive, so depending on when the kitten got tested relative to his exposure to FIV and his ability to shake it off, it is possible a kitten could be negative and the mom positive, although if i was rolling the dice i would say that a fully negative kitten at 8-12 weeks probably has a negative mom, but if i was concerned i would test the mom.

It is standard practice where i live and work that kittens are always tested twice, up to 6 months apart to really be sure the kitten is Neg.  A kitten or cat who was recently exposed may not show antibodies until later.

I took momma to the vet and had her tested.  She was negative for Felv/FIV/HW.  Now she will be spayed tomorrow.
