Hello...
To start i will introduce you to my 2 year old Male cat MooMoo. We have had him since he was 3 months old. We actually got him with his sister. My sister in law rescued them from an abandon house under the porch. His sister did not want to be inside i guess and one day about 6 months after getting them while i was in the bathroom she jumped out through the screen in my living room window ripping it and ran away. Moo moo did not even try to jump out of the window and has never been outside since we got him.

Anyways we have now had him almost 2 years and i just rescued another kitten Jasper. He is a 6-8 week old male. Now i know he shouldnt have been taken away from his mother and what not but that was not anyones doing. His mother died during birth and had no choice...that is what the lady told me. I have had him for a week tomorrow.

When i got him he was already off kitten formula and on softened kitten chow. I asked the vet if that was okay or if i should switch him back and he said as long as he is digesting everything okay and not losing weight he will be fine. And he is. He has already gained weight and has actually gotten a little bigger. He is very friendly and playful and cuddly and would like moo moos attention....but thats my problem. My moo moo is terrified of him. He has been in my kitchen for 6 days now. I had to move his potty box under my kitchen table so he could go potty also because my kitchen is right next to the living room and to get to any other room you have to go through the living room. Anyways if i go into the kitchen moo moo is his normal self rubbing on me lovey dovey meowing making me rub his tummy and what not but if the kitten goes in there moo moo freaks out and runs all over bouncing off stuff and growling and hissing so i have a couple ahoe boxes blocking the doorway to the kitchen so jasper cant get in there.

At night i have jasper in the bathroom with his bed food and water and litter box toys and a night light its a decent sized bathroom so he has plenty of room to run around and he dont cry at all while he is in there. That is when moo moo acts normal again bedtime he is on our bed cuddling and purring and acting happy and everything just like when hes in the kitchen.

I dont know how to make him be normal with the kitten in the same room. Even if the kitten is in his crate moo moo is still scared. His hair dont stand up on his back or anythjng like that he just growls runs around like crazy and hisses. He does the same thing when humming birds come up the their feeder by my wondow. Is he juat a scardy cat or am i doing wrong? I know it takes time but from all the other posts ive read like mine none of my cats reactions are like theirs. Please help ideas advice anything. (If anyone is wondering jasper is my profile pic)

Moo Moo is behaving just like cats do when you introduce a new cat into the house. He's not scared and he doesn't hate your new kitten ... he's just doing what cats do

That's why there is so much written about how to introduce one cat to another - you need to take is slowly and carefully and then it should all be OK.

Here's an article to read to give you an idea of how to go about it:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/introducing-cats-to-cats

And welcome to TCS!

Thank you very much. I will do these steps right away. I got some information before i got the kitten to make sure i knew how to bring him in to my household with my old cat and i did have them seperated for 3 days but the kitten cried constantly and i felt like i was abusing him cause i wasnt constantly around him like he wants. I called my vet yesterday and asked if it was normal and he said he has seperation anxiety which is normal with abandoned kittens and as long as i make him comfortable and show him i will be here everyday he will be fine. Moo moo does the same thing when he sees my fish in the fish tank or with the hummingbirds or if he sees the neighbors dog outside. But as soon as i pick him up and hold him he stops. I am going to go do the blanket under the door thing now he has been sleeping on this blanket for 7 days now so im sure his smell is all over it. Hoping it starts to work i feel like a bad mommy cause moo moo is so upset. I will post updates every couple days thank you for the link and your help!

Update on moo moo. The day before yesterday I look over to the kittens play area in my living room and moo moo is down there with him sniffing and playing with him. He checks him out all the time now. as long as jasper don't touch him he is good lol only moo moo can touch jasper not the other way around yet. The food and water on either side if the door wasn't working moo moo wouldn't even go close to the door and wouldn't eat or drink so i put his food bowl back in the kitchen and I just went on with my normal weekly schedule and all of a sudden he is starting to love him! And another question, jasper is the messiest eater I've ever seen. He has to have his while body inside his bowl even tho it don't fit lol he makes such a mess with his food but with his water he drinks normal...is there a way to teach him not to put his while body in his dish or just let it go. Andjasper has been in my home for 10 days or so and has gained weight and gotten longer and taller. Such a big difference since we got him! I have a feeling he is going to be a very large cat. He is over half siamese. His mom is full Siamese and his dad has some in hi is what I was told.

Its a double bowl and water dish. I didn't have many options at the stores in my area I had to get what was available. He don't have a problem with the water side just the food. And he is on Rachel ray food compatible with kittens.that's the healthiest food I can find in my area. Moo moo won't eat anything but Rachel ray food

He's is doing better now that I'm bringing in hard food. He has to slow down and chew it. I soften some and mix it with hard

And he won't acknowledge our voices. He can hear stuff but he won't listen to our voices. He hasn't learned his name yet.he won't listen to here kitty kitty or anything. Idk what I'm doing wrong.

Some cats just don't respond to names and other talk.. especially little kittens!  They're too busy being kittens to care..

I'm not wild about the combined water and food bowls as many cats don't like to have their water where they eat - I think it comes from a deep instinctual desire to have unpolluted water.  And it's so important that they are encouraged to drink. You don't have to have fancy cat bowls.  Some of mine are china bowls I picked up at my local charity shop.  And it's much better to have china or stainless steel bowls than plastic - some cats even get chin acne from using plastic bowls.

I ordered some new bowls on amazon. Moo moo refuses to eat and drink out if stainless steel so I got a couple porcilne ones in case jasper is the same. I got the combined one at first because he was so tiny and it was low to the ground for him but he has gotten so much bigger and is now on just hard food and he is eating great and not making much mess. And him and moo moo are running all over the house playing. No cuddling yet but its came close a couple times lol only if me and my husband act like were not paying attention. The only issue I'm having now with them is moo moo keeps trying to steal jaspers food. And I've caught him sneaking up to it and growling at jasper until I say moo moo and then he runs away. Is that normal or should I do something different. It don't happen every time I feed them just every once in a while. Moo moo is a food hog too he will eat and eat if I'd let him. He is on a strict diet from the vet because he got so fat cause he likes to eat so much.so I don't know if its because he just wants extra food or if he's being a meany..

That all sounds good.. As for the food thing, cats don't really stick to their own bowls.  They don't know whose food is whose necessarily (and if they do they're not telling..
).  If this is only happening occasionally you're doing pretty well.
But if I ever have cats on diets I tend to feed them separately.

So happy to see the progress! They are so cute especially that last pic of them cuddling. I've had to go through this a few times with adopting new cats. My oldest male(Presley) hated all other cats that would come even close to our door so I was worried when I first brought home our female(Wednesday) that I found wondering in the street starving but surprisingly he took to her right away.
My most recent issue with this problem was a tad different than any other experience, Presley hated our newest cat(Elvis) thing was that it was his own son. They get along now but every once in a while they get in a little spat. I'm not sure if it's dad putting his son in check, or if it's a jealously thing because he's the baby of the family, or what? I'd like to think that Presley does know that Elvis is his son, like its part of him, or if he just sees him as some random cat. I know Wednesday knows for sure that Elvis is her son because she still tries to bathe him and act like when he was small lol he turned one a few months ago. What do you guys think does dad know that it's his son? And why do you think he still gets upset with Elvis?

Hi again. I am having another issue with moo moo. I had to give jasper a bath last night cause he somehow fell in his poop or something but it was all over his side. And now moo moo is back to hissing and being a meanie and hiding in the kitchen. He acts like he don't recognize him when he watched me give him the bath and everything. Jasper tries to go over and cuddle with him and moo moo smacks him hisses and runs away and hides. And then jasper looks at me with a sad face and jumps up and lays down on me. Jasper is acting depressed now since moo moo pushed him away and he won't play or anything. Just sleeps on the couch. I don't like seeing him sad like this he is usually on the floor running around being hyper. Will it get better like before or did I piss moo moo off or what lol I have no idea what to do now

i suspect that when your jasper had his bath, he ended up smelling different. what did you use to bathe him? one of the ways cats identify/recognize each other through scent.

if your jasper's smells different, it's possible that your moo moo doesn't recognize him. something that may help is to gently rub your moo moo with a fresh towel, then take that same towel and gently rub your jasper with it. this is one way to swap scents, and by doing so your jasper will have some of moo moo's scent on him and smell more familiar to moo moo. since your moo moo is a 'sensitive' boy (very good looking too!), you might try laying the fresh towel down somewhere he enjoys laying, then when he's laying on it use edges of the towel to gently rub his cheeks and sides, etc. use those edges of the towel to gently rub on your jasper -- i'd also suggest laying that towel down and letting jasper curl up on it, then gently rubbing him with those edges. cats most times don't like a towel to be put over them or parts of them.

I used Johnsons baby soap cause I didn't know what to use for him cause he is still a baby. And moo moo is getting better again lol but he will be growling while licking jasper he is weird he will get over it he is just stubborn I think. They will be cuddling and I'll walk into the room and he will smack jasper and run lol like oh she caught me loving you.
