My female cat stole one of her sister's 3 wk old kittens. She raced away with it about 30 mins ago. I'm very upset and cannot find it. I'm worried the kitten will not survive now. Why would she do this? Will she bring it back?

Well both. But I set up a secluded spot on the covered back patio to keep mama and babies separated from our dog. I didn't realize my other cat would be a threat!

Is the sister also with babies or about to give birth?  Seems very unusual for female to take another's kitten. Did you find the kitten yet?

They can do so sometimes so they too have someone to nurse and take care of.  If she too has milk and DO take care of, this is not a big problem - fairly  common in the nature or with cat moms living together.

But if she doenst has milk, and cant nurse,  its is of course very serious.

Its two days now since you wrote the first post.

How is it going, what happened really??

It took a couple of days to find her hiding spot in the yard. We returned the kitten and mama and babies are fine. The other female isn't pregnant and has never had babies of her own.

Well that was very strange!  So glad kitten got back to mama! Lucky he survived without nursing. You wonder if the other cat fed him a mouse or something? Although kitten would be a little young. Hopefully you have been able to secure the little family from the "predator" and kitten has not suffered from his adventure/kit-nabbing!
