Jack had diarreah 1 time 3 days ago. Got him back to eating and normal stools. But the same night he sneezed loud and alot. Restless all nite. But this morning little sneezes. Vet said 1/2 benedryl. Wow he swallowed it but foaming drooling. It tasted bad. He had uri 3 months ago due to stress of xrays and testing. Is this uri or just sneezing. Rating well looks ok. Sneezing is small now. Food allergies maybe. Harballs ? Really concerned. Trying to wean him off purina friskies wet food but he is stubborn loves fish flavors an chicken. Do cats sneeze? And could be ok.

Yes, cats sneeze - for many reasons.

I 100% prefer zyrtec over the very old school benadryl that makes cats drool when administered and makes them sleepy when on it. :( Please ask your vet about this. (FYI, it is a very bad allergy season this year, and many cats that don't normally present with seasonal allergies are being affected).

We use generic Claritin (Loratadine), just 1/4 to 1/2 tablet once a day.  It works great for my crew.

My vet is the one who recommended the Claritin 8 years ago.  It's worked well for my girl who is now 10 yrs old.

Start off with 1/4 tablet once daily and see if that helps.  If it doesn't improve his sneezing, then up it to 1/2 tablet a day.

no. do not use claritin d on cats. regular claritin can be cut as can regular zyrtec.

loratadine/Claritin is not a time-released medication. the antihistamine effects last for 12 to 24 hours in humans because the elimination half-life of the drug is 8 to 15 hours.

No, you never want to give a kitty anything with a decongestant in it.  You can use plain Claritin (Loratadine).  It's easy for me to split or break in half.

Pharmacist confuses me. They said i cant divide a regular clairitin. Its 24 hr time released. I am so confused dont want to hurt him would like to only give 1/4. Maybe 5mg is safe. Please explain do you half the 24 hr pill. Ex...10mg 24 hr cut in half. Or half the 5 mg? Both are time released. Where do you buy them and please be specific on what the box says. I am so new at this.

I have been giving this to my cat for the past 8 years.  I just break the 10mg tablet in half and then quarters and add to wet food.  I smash it with the back of a spoon and mix it in and down the hatch it goes.  I use the Wal-Mart (Equate) or Sam's brand of Loratadine (10mg) which is a 24 hour pill.
