I am driving myself crazy trying to find the "best" soft kitten food to pair with the Orijen hard that we use for our 10 week old kitten. I was using Blue Wilderness kitten soft food, but I think it's making him sick. I was thinking about trying the NV Instinct?

There is no "best food"
What works for one cat may not work for another. The "best" food is the one your cat will eat and one you can afford and can find in the local stores.

Any of the NV Instinct canned foods are good to feed
Blue Buffalo is also good but if you think it's making your cat sick, try a different brand and slowly transition over to avoid an upset tummy.

There are some suggestions on canned food here: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/297027/best-canned-food-brand And see this sticky: http://www.thecatsite.com/a/what-makes-the-best-canned-cat-food

I think high protein and low carb are key for good kitten and adult cat foods, though I agree that "best" can be a very relative term when it comes to cat foods! Particularly given the fact that some cats are picky and some ingredients bother individual cats. FWIW, a lot of Blue Buffalo's foods (including their Wilderness kitten food) have potato, which seems to make one of our cats vomit. Sensitivity to potato doesn't seem to be very common but a few other Cat Site members have mentioned it. A lot of foods have potato these days as filler and/or thickener, so

NV Instinct is good food (lots of people pick out the peas!) and it's pretty caloric, which is great for kittens. Our cats simply didn't like it much, either as kittens or (alleged) adults, though lots of cats seem to swear by it. Our cats loved Wellness Core's kitten food, though, and I still buy them a can of it every now and then as a treat. Our cats also like several Nutro Natural Choice foods: they like minced chicken, sliced turkey, and chunky chicken. NNC also makes a kitten food that has good ingredients. (And no potato!)

Good luck!

I have two 5 month old kittens, and they love Wellness Core and Nutro Natural kitten varieties. Both are grain-free, and the Nutro Natural is especially soft and easy for them to eat, especially now that they're teething. I tried a couple different Blue Buffalo kitten formulas with them, but they didn't really like any of them, so if you're having issues with BB maybe your kitten would like these two also.

I also feed them a variety of other canned foods that are for all life stages. They love Nature's Variety Instinct and Wild Calling!, which are both pates, and I'll give them TikiCat or Weruva occasionally to mix up the textures for them.
