I have a kitten with tapeworms. I see little rice grain like things near his ass. The medicine for tapeworms says two pounds and up and he is only one pound so do I just live with it?

I do not want worms!

The doc at Banfield said they can do it with an injection but I have to pay 40 for the appointment and then a fecal sample test so they will charge me $150 for an 8 dollar dose of dewormer. Which reminds me, I am getting health insurance for the cat because I know vets are horrible these days.

Tapeworms don't show up on a fecal.  If possible, find an independent vet.  Banfield likes for it's patients to be on a "plan" which is just a money making venture for them.  Ask friends and family for vet recommendations.  Unfortunately, I've never had a wee little kitten needing tapeworm meds, so I can't address that part.

I'll take him tomorrow at lunch. They can't give him the pill but she said they can give an injectable version because the dose is so exact.

My worry is that other places won't have it though because they are not as big as banfield.

Most vets have basic meds, but if you're concerned, call ahead of time.

Hm, scales are not generally that sensitive. I think I'll just take him in to be on the safe side, but thank you :)

they probably want to do a fecal to rule out any other worms. $40 is not bad. i pay $56 for an exam by a cat-only vet. around $20 for fecal test.

He seems so little. I do agree with the others about seeing another Vet besides Banfield. Years ago, I nearly lost a cat do to a reaction to the pain injection they gave her. I personally do not have any cats wormed until they are at least 12 weeks old. I am worried since he is so young. I would see if they would give Drontal Tabs. I worry with injections as normally they are not reversable if he was to have a bad reaction to it.

I gave him the bayer expert care tapeworm.

it said not for cats younger than 6 weeks and he is 6 weeks so I gave him the recommended dose of half a pill and he was ok.

Thanks!
