I have been giving Rube his SEB + EYL + digestive enzymes + Provobial anywhere from 30-45 minutes before eating. I know some holistic vets are concerned about SEB interfering with the absorption of nutrients but can't find any suggestion between when to give SEB and when to feed. My fear of waiting too long is you lee the benefit of the SEB coating in the intestines. Thoughts?

I hadn't really thought about nutrient absorption but it makes sense.  I know the recommendation for medicine is at least 2 hours between medicine and SEB.  You are right though about losing the benefits.  I personally think, and I am not a vet or vet tech, that 45 minutes would be a happy medium.

I had Chumley on a teaspoon of SEB powder twice a day mixed with his food for over a year. Yes, it is advisable to give it separately from medicine - but the same is actually true for ALL mucilagenous fibers - and that includes those commonly found in cat foods: xanthan gum, guar gum, carrageenan... SEB is no different. Well, actually it is. Because it *contains* nutrition the others don't. As Dr. Hofve points out in her article on slippery elm bark powder, it was used to keep people alive in the absence of other foods during the revolutionary war.

I know many, many people with IBD cats using the SEB syrup, giving it 1/2 an hour before a meal to treat nausea. This doesn't mean they won't all turn up with some kind of deficiencies... but then is it due to the fiber or the disease? :dk:

As with any supplement, I recommend not using it all the time if that can be avoided.

Well I triedtocut back on the mix I'm giving Rube (SEB + probiotics + EYL + digestive enzymes + vet's best twice daily) and the next morning he threw up a hairball the first time in weeks. Coincidence or hairball season? Who knows!?!? But when I went back to the daily mixture and brushing every day, the hairballs cut back. I did find one this morning but had to spend the night with my dad last night and Rube does have some separation anxiety. I brushed him and got tons of hair off so we're definitely not through with shedding yet.

Yeah, at that point, I'd go with what stops the hairballs and not worry about the rest. My experience is that my cat was fine on a rather high dose, frequently, fed with food for over a year.
