Long story short, my mother wanted to try soft paws on my baby a while ago- most of them fell off, minus 1 that stuck around but didnt seem to be doing anything so we waited for it to fall off

Went to check it earlier today and do a routine trim and low and behold his soft paw looked as though it had punctured his paw pad- 1 foot soak and manual removal of the soft claw later and we're a bit worried about the wound (me especially because I worry too much over this fluffy old man)

it's not terribly big and it doesn't look bad, it's not deep or anything, more like just a small rubbed-raw looking sort of area (I'll be keeping an eye on it and taking him to the vet for medicine if necessary) , but because it's on his pawpad there's the concern for dirt/cat litter/etc getting into it and making it worse

so does anyone have any recommendations/tutorials/anything on how to properly wrap his paw up so he won't hurt it, and how to prevent him from ripping it off? He's walking fine and seems happy enough, though the wound is (expectedly) a little bit tender

also any signs i should look for in particular that would signal the need for an immediate vet visit?

no pictures available rn because i just cleaned it up a bit again and kitty is a bit sour over it, but if needed i could probably grab one tomorrow or once he calms down/is asleep for better opinions on it (though warning, it's not exactly pretty either)

Don't wrap it. Improperly wrapping extremities can be dangerous and wounds need air to keep them ventilated and dry. You could try Epsom salt soaks and warm wet compresses twice daily. Make sure your cat doesn't lick at it and watch out for redness, swelling, oozing, heat and excessive pain.
