My cat has a hard lump under his chin. I am afraid it is larger than I ever remember feeling before. However I have felt them in the past.   He does  usually get super itchy during the spring and scratch there.  And they usually do go away.

He is also on Predlesone for asthma.

He is eating just fine, though his teeth could be an issue. He is 9 years old. Though I had him examined last year and the vet felt his teeth were ok.

But the lump is tender. He pulls away from me when I try to examine it.

Any thoughts?

This could very well be feline acne. It develops under the chin of the cat and can cause large hard lumps and you will also see black clogged pores if you look closely. If your cat is already on Pred, then this should help with that as well. Although, washing of the chin once daily with something like Hibiclens which you can purchase at the pharmacy is very helpful. Mupirocin ointment - from the vet - will also help tremendously for the sores. Chin acne can turn into folliculitis if the pustules become infected also. So maybe a vet check is in order. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

I just found a few hours ago an extremely hard mass under my NuNu cats chin & I'm scared to death. Her breath is horrible & when I looked inside her mouth I did not see anything out of the ordinary. I also noticed all of her fur under her chin & down her neck seems greasy, but this mass is not draining. Please does anyone know what this could be? She is strictly an indoor cat, & over the last few days has been stuck to me like glue. I'm very worried & calling the vet ASAP! Thanks!

After finding the large lump on my cat NuNu's chin, I took her into the vet. The vet started her out on antibiotics & gave her a pain shot, & scheduled a follow up. He was hoping the antibiotics would assist in helping w/a probable either infected tooth, or infected jaw bone. The hard lump has not gotten any smaller, & now my next step is having her sedated to take jaw/teeth x-rays. NuNu doesn't seem to be uncomfortable but she won't let me anywhere near the lump on her jaw, & her coat is still greasy-which the vet said is due to her lack of grooming due to her sore jaw/teeth. Should I ask for additional pain meds? Should I continue w/having her sedated for the x-rays & pray to God it's not some sort of tumor? Thanks!

If he is eating and acting normal otherwise he's probably not in a lot of pain to warrant increasing the pain meds. I would call the vet regarding that issue. I'd leave the area alone until it is further investigated the fur in that area can always be cleaned later. if the vet doesn't think it is just a simple abcess or skin tag then I would definitely get the X-ray. Your kitty is still pretty young hopefully it is not serious. Did the vet check his mouth and teeth? Did the vet say anything about possibly trying to drain it?

I took my baby to the vet today for her follow up appointment & now he's saying she needs x-rays, possible teeth cleaning, possible biopsy, possibly teeth extractions, etc. My estimate is between $350-$850, depending on what he sees after he anesthetizes her & does the x-rays. Yes he tried to look at her teeth near her bottom jaw, & there is a small red area. There's nothing to be drained-as the lump is hard & feels like bone. I'm scheduled to bring her in on Wed of this coming up week, but have no idea what to do if it's $850. I'm scared to death it's a tumor. She's not acting as if she's in pain-only when I try to examine the lump does she pull away. I just know I'll feel miserable if something happens to her that I could have prevented. Thank you so much for all your advice. You have no idea how much I appreciate it.[emoji]128536[/emoji]

I'm not saying this is the problem because I'm not a vet but if the lump is where her teeth are and her teeth are bad then it may be that. Especially if she doesn't get regular cleanings. It's hard to keep us with becuase it's so expensive. Is the vet saying her teeth and gums are bad?

I decided to take my kitty NuNu into our family vet, who was unavailable prior. We have a VERY long & wonderful history w/him & I trust him 100% After looking @ her he gave my Mom & I some very bad news. Yes, I'm 42yrs old & need to bring my Mommy into the vet w/me. Sad!
He said it's definitely not her teeth. Which really upset me since the last vet she saw in the same office stated he believed she needed up to $800+ of mostly dental issues work. He went on to say it looked to him like a bone tumor, since she's 11yrs old & it wasn't an abscess or dental issue. He advised me to continue w/the antibiotic twice a day & see if by chance the hard lump goes down. It is inoperable as it involves her entire lower jaw. I'm very sad.
Unfortunately the lump has gotten bigger. I'm continuing w/the antibiotics & giving her extra canned food, love, & affection. She's sleeping a lot but still is eating, using the litter box, & walks around the house.
My biggest question is how do I know what to be looking for if she's in pain? She used to be fine w/me touching the lump, but not anymore. She isn't crying or wailing, but I don't know what other things to be looking for. I do NOT want her to be in pain. Thanks so much!

Mine had a lump just under the jaw it started really small and got bigger. The problem is it got big in a matter of days no one noticed it until it got so big and painful. You know when she stops eating she in too much pain. What did the vet say it is?
