I have a 4 year old female cat, she is quite overweight the vet said a couple of years ago but didn't seem too concerned at that time. Her weight hasn't changed BUT something else has. A bit of history....a couple of years ago i gave her catnip for the first time and noted she did not react well to it! she was so sick after and it took a good week of her vomiting, being lethargic and not well before she got better, wasn't sure if it was the catnip but she recovered fine. A few weeks ago i gave my other cat catnip and the one that "may" have gotten sick from it before had a few sniffs and rolls but for the most part left it alone, i also didn't want to give her too much as i wasn't sure if that's what caused problems before. Sure enough she was vomiting by night:( i felt awful because it looked like it was the catnip that doesn't agree with her but now the problem has gone on too long for it to be that. She wasn't as bad as the first time but the vomiting hasn't gone away:/ idk if it's coincidence at this point but now i'm getting concerned. She eats, drinks, acts and has BM that are normal BUT almost every day (hard to tell with the other cat in the house) she is vomiting and nothing comes up but clear fluids and sometimes it is yellow. Because she was acting fine and we are never 100% sure if it's the other cats vomit, we've been keeping an eye on her, but other than the vomiting she seems fine. Now this is where the problem comes into play. When she does try to expel, she gets VERY agitated! she is normally a VERY quiet cat but we always know when she's going to vomit because she howls and howls and sure enough the heaving starts, which is quite extreme and liquid comes out. Yesterday though my son informed me he found vomit tinged with pink and that can not be good! I feel as though she has the worlds biggest hairball she can't bring up and maybe that's all it is? I don't think at this point it's the catnip anymore, but idk because of the coincidence. She is totally acting normal otherwise though. No other issues with her. i DO HAVE A VET APPOINTMENT to make it clear as usually posts like this get only a response like that, but in the meantime i'm trying to get some idea on what it could be?? The pink vomit could be blood from her trying to vomit too much? or it could be more serious i know but ideas are what i'm trying to get at this point. Could it be as simple as diet? i know it could be as serious as fatty liver because of her size, but am baffled because of her acting fine.

Sorry to hear your kitty has a upset belly.   And good to know she has an appointment with the vet.

My 4(ish) year old adopted cat, Ruby, has a sensitive stomach. Right from after I adopted her, a year and a half ago, she would vomit a clear liquid a few times a week. Eventually one morning I woke up to several clear vomit spots and then she vomited minutes after eating her breakfast, so I took her to the vet that day.  The vet suggested trying a hypo-allergenic food, He also prescribed a Pepcid type pill to give her for a few days.  The new food worked well for over a year, but now she has grown bored with it and I'm trying other foods.  So far so good.

Interesting about the cat nip.   I've wondered if Ruby is allergic to catnip, as I had sprinkled some on a scratcher a couple days before the day she had the major vomiting episode.  I've not tested the theory though, as I threw out all the catnip after she got sick.

My vet said Ruby might have IBD/IBS but decided to try the food change before proceeding to "expensive tests" (his quote).  As she's been fine, we didn't do the tests, so I'm not sure what they would involve.

Hope things go well with your vet visit.

Thanks for your reply! i too think it will be a diet change she needs, the thing with her being fine otherwise is what keeps me from going overboard panic wise:/ She plays,runs,cuddles...all normal routines, just this vomiting. makes me panic because it's obviously NOT normal. I keep thinking i may have overlooked her overweight problem and it's really bloating or some huge mass in her tummy:( but last she went to vet he just said she's chunky and was amused by her when he felt around (she was there with an unrelated problem but i got him to look at that issue at the same time) I'm also worried because 3 years ago we had many unexpected pet emergencies with our other animals and the bills mounted up to about $20,000 ugh! But i'm hoping when they feel her tummy they know what to feel for and what's fat and not and go from there. Hoping for the best and at least get her on a diet when all is well that will help her shed some pounds.

I'm no expert on cat health, by any means, but whenever I see "clear vomiting"  I feel I can at least share my experience with Ruby.   Hopefully a food change will work for you too.   Good luck.

I posted a few days ago about my cat seeming to be acting fine other than some vomiting, so she was off to the vets today. After a check up and blood work nothing was conclusive other than very low white blood cells, so an xray was suggested and sure enough! She has 2 BB pellets lodged in her abdomen!:( the only way she even has a chance is to have surgery to remove them but they won't know about any further damage until she is opened up).

This is at least what they think is causing the problem and logic would say it is?? the low white blood cells is whats throwing me off. I am only 50/50 on it as there could be so many problems once they go in but i know i did what i could to try and save her. She is still acting well and not on deaths door visually so i am hoping they can save her.

They don't know how long they've been in there, they are both in her abdomen close to her spleen and didn't hit any organs BUT she said it appears it maybe migrating into her small intestine or causing/caused intestinal damage, again they won't know until they go in. I hope she pulls through and i am so glad i made the decision to spend the money to do everything possible instead of giving up because she can't live without this operation. I'm not sure how this will end but it is true, vomiting can be caused by anything!

Positive vibes are soooo needed if possible:( and if anyone's had a similar experience or knows anything or advice they can give me about a medical situation like this, it would be so welcomed:)

Poor little girl! I really hope the operation goes smoothly, and that there isn't long term damage. So good that you got her to the vet when you did. Get well soon, little one :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:
