Tiger does not enjoy being groomed. He just gets mad. However, Whiskers loves grooming. She purrs and meows, but at times it is hard to groom her because she rubs against the brush.

Before Boris the Siberian arrived,  I read that he would need grooming once a week.  That seemed like a small amount of work to keep him properly groomed.   I read he would shed twice a year which would take some extra work.

He loves to roll onto his back to have his belly rubbed, which allows me to brush the areas that are most likely to mat.

I brush his tail and behind while he eats.  Boris will put up with almost anything while he is eating!  I groom him often because --->

His hairballs are epic.  Boris is a clean kitty and he grooms himself very well.  It is best to get the loose fur with the brush rather than having him swallow it while he is grooming.  The first hairball I saw was three inches long and he was only 4 months old!  I wasn't sure what it was until the Vet assured me that, yes, it was actually a hairball.  Since then I have found them everywhere, including on upholstered furniture.  A regular brushing lessens the frequency and decreases the size.

Next Diamond arrived, another long-haired kitty.  I think he leaves a trail of fur behind him as he zooms through the house.  I got a powerful shop vacuum with a HEPA filter to help deal with it, but it is better to remove loose fur with a brush before he can shed it.

Diamond can get a furball days after grooming, another reason for frequent brushing.   He gets furballs on his back legs, under his front legs and on his chest, belly, tail and ruff.  When he got here, he had several large furballs on his rear legs, one of them an inch and a half long!  He has very fine and thick fur.  

At first he thought the brush was a toy.  Also his claws would come out when I combed his chest, belly or ruff.  Now he usually holds still, belly up with paws spread.  He has calmed down very much lately.  Since he is so cooperative, I try to brush him at least a little every day. It's best to be proactive with him.

I try to keep their backsides trimmed with a Furminator so they don't get the "stinkies."  But they don't like the Furminator and I brush their backsides regularly.

One of my favorite chores is grooming the kitties.  It is more like giving the cats affection than doing a tedious chore!  They love it and I love the positive feedback I get from them.

Have Maine Coon, will mat.  Our Sammi is 19 and fortunately, he LOVES to be brushed.  He was adopted by us at age 14 and came with his slicker brush and Furminator, which I had never used before and quickly found out was a necessitiy, not a luxury.  Clouds of brown patch tabby fur float through the air whenever he is Furminated; but it is still a constant battle to defeat the Great Mat.  His cottony undercoat is a beautiful apricot hue, and it frequenly adorns my jeans legs, the duvet, and the floor when we are engaged in our Furminations.  I know that Sammi and the rest of the family, all of whom love being groomed, would be very excited about winning this amazing prize package!  View media item 273625

Oh don't worry, I think Forest is actually quite relieved that I don't have an excuse to brush him more than I already do.

Awww.  Sammi and most of the crew line up ad mob me in the bathroom first thing in the morning (and frequently throughout my waking hours) demanding brushing.
