I am writing for my cat Tom. We are new to this site and not new to cats. Got Tom as a 12 year old male special needs cat from the SPCA. To has/had hyperthyroidism and we have had to give him meds twice a day.

We have had cats previously - all rescues - but our main pets are domestic rabbits. I have a bunch of questions to ask and am looking forward to hearing from you all.

Thanks

Welcome to TCS! Thank you for rescuing a senior with special needs; while we love all cats, you have a very, very big heart and we're very excited to have you around.

Thank you. People say that he is a lucky cat but I think I am the lucky one to have him. Interestingly there was another person waiting for my decision to take him because they would have. I also have four rescued rabbits and one of those is also special needs.

Welcome!  So good of you to take him at his age.  How neat that someone else was willing to take him, too.

This is great that he has a home. I would like to remind you though, to not leave him alone with any rabbits, rabbits should be secured in a crate or another room. Because even though he may be friends with them, I wouldn't leave him alone unsupervised. Being a cat, and the rabbit being a rabbit, I wouldn't want any harm to come to either of them especially the rabbits.

Thank you for the comments. Old cats need love and care and I a very happy to provide that. As to rabbits I have a post under Health and I mention the rabbit relationship there.

I have had rabbits for about 15 years and cats all my life and they do not mingle. I am very much aware of the consequences.

Incidentally I would never keep my rabbits in a crate unless I was travelling with them. But I agree 100% with your comments. I realize this is a cat site so won't dwell on my rabbits save to say that when they are kept indoors in the bunny barn they each have a 4 foot long by 2 foot wide hutch. Larger than most but I think still not big enough.
