Putting Advantage on Super Thick Hair

I can't be sure that I'm getting the drops way down into the skin on the back of my Maine Coon's head. Seemed to work last fall. I think his fur got more dense this winter. Any tricks?

Are you spreading the fur like parting a person's hair?

I do, but his hair is just super thick!
