Last Fall, my female cat (8 yrs old) start loosing weight really fast. After a couple of vet visits and tests she was diagnosed with pancreatitis. She was on Pred (1/4 tablets twice daily) for about 7 months. And she has been on a special diet (purina EN. Tried other special diets but they didn't work, she vomitted a lot)  We switched to a monthly steroid injection last month. 10 days ago I saw that she was having trouble in the litter box and she was peeing pink. I immediately took her to an emergency vet this time. Had an x-ray and ultrasound. No signs of cancer. She had liquid clavamox 6mg twice daily for 10 days. 2 days after the last dose her symptoms came back - with a vengeance. She is marking all over the place- the couch, all the carpets, my gym bag, laundry basket... you name it. She must be in so much pain.

The last 7-8 months she has been in constant care. But she is still in pain. And lost a lot of weight. I've been doing everything I can but I just couldn't cure her. I keep taking her to different vets. I don't know what else to do.

Any insight will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Just a couple of thoughts besides offering sympathy.  I'm presuming the blood in the urine was for a UTI?  Baytril is a more commonly prescribed antibiotic for UTI's than Clavamox so you might want to discuss that with your vet, but regardless is she has had a relapse then she needs more meds.

Pancreatitis is a real problem and my cat had it. It tends to go in waves with flare ups.  A commonly used drug to control nausea with it is Cerenia, i found it to be a wonder drug, and it can be given in pills, and in an urgent situation in can be given sub Q but with fluids to avoid stinging.  A faster anti nausea drug if she is having a vomiting attack is Zofran, injectable sub q, no issues, but it only works for 6 hours so its great to get on board while the cerenia is starting to work, or around the clock if need be when she is having a bad day.

Fluids, and by that i mean sub Q fluids can also help with pancreatitis, so i would be discussing:

- more antibiotics for UTI flare up and maybe Baytril

- Anti nausea drugs like cerenia and Zofran

- Sub q fluids

Fluids aren't hard to give with a compliant cat, the vet can show you how and we can link you to some great videos including one by a vet, on here.

Thanks for the reply. I'll see her regular vet tomorrow and discuss the suggested medications. Just realizing that there are other routes that we haven't taken yet, gave me hope. Thanks.

Thank you so much for your insight!

Here is an update: We had the sub q fluids, cerenia, bloodwork and x-rays on Friday and was called back to the office the next day when her test result showed off-the-charts high amount of white blood cell counts. She was given more fluids and anti biotics as well as an appettite stimulant. She didnt eat for 3 days and was so weak. Until yesterday! She is not her old self yet and is running a slight fever but she is muuuuuch better. And that means the world to me. We will get an ultrasound this week. Of course all these are not free and I was wondering how much should an x-ray and an ultrasound cost?

An ultrasound can cost a few hundred dollars +/- depending on the practice.....

For me, in my area, it is $400 for an x-ray (& to read the x-ray) and $400 for an ultrasound. I know now sadly. :(
