Hello
My kitty is 8 years old and has been sick with diahhrea and fever, no appetite, not drinking water, etc.  We worked with the vet and stopped the diahhrea and got the temp down to normal.  She started eating really well, drinking well, and acting her normal sweet self.  However, this morning, the diahhrea has returned and she has not eaten her evening food from yesterday.  I took her temperature with a digital baby thermometer which allows safe insertion only to 1/2".  Her temperature was 99.2.  Is that too low?  I wonder if the baby thermometer gave a low reading because of the less than 1" insertion?  I would appreciate any input.  Thank you so much!!!  So glad to be part of a community that loves cats as much as I do!!!

That is definitely subnormal.  Cats normally have temps close to 101.5, so perhaps you did need a deeper insertion or a longer time for reading.  My digital thermometer beeps when time is up.  I would expect her temp to be higher.  I don't consider them having a fever until it gets to 103.5, and I've had cats with fevers up to 106 many times when they are sick.  Anything higher than that, I would be rushing them to the emergency clinic.
