I think my kitty broke his tail?! Help!

ok so just a couple hours ago I was petting my kitty and as I pet his tail he meowed as on discomfort. So I tried to exam his tail myself and as I would slightly touch it I think it would hurt him. His tail goes up, but not all of it, in like a C shape? He seems fine besides when you touch it. I heard it can heal on its own? But I don't want him in discomfort. He still eats and everything. Just worried about him. I think it's fractured a little more than half way up his tail. Idk if I should wait 48 hours then take him to the vet or take him asap? [emoji]128528[/emoji] please help!! Hi Kassie; welcome to TCS! 

Do you have an emergency vet in your area?  I would give them a call for advice.  I am not 100% certain on this; but I believe tail fractures in certain areas can cause other issues.  So that is something I'd want professional advice on.  Our local emergency vet has been willing to give me some advice over the phone on whether or not our situations are true emergencies; or care can wait until my regular clinic is open.  

If you cannot talk to someone tonight; I'd call first thing tomorrow morning.  Even if it's not a critical break; he may still need care sooner rather than later so it will heal properly.  

I hope it turns out to be nothing too major for him (What is his name?)  Please keep us updated!

The best thing you can do is go to a vet who can wrap the tail properly and prescribe pain meds.  Do NOT give any pain meds that you have at home, most of these are very dangerous for cats.
