these pictures don't show how much has fallen. They're a bit blurry, but you can get a general idea. In less than 24 hours, we got about 30 cm (almost a foot), and it's still drifting down. I'm not a big fan of winter and snow as a general rule, but someone in our household is... the DOG! I took her to a large open field nearby, and she bunny-hopped through the deep snow for about 1/2 an hour!

I love snow and I miss it! It looks beautiful there with all the fresh snow! I so wish my dog would get to see snow one day, I think she'd love it as well!

Thanks for sharing the pics.

But that would have to be one heck of a snow for Bella to have to bunny-hop in it!

That's so pretty!

The only place that gets snow in Australia often are the low altitude ski fields that we have...and even then that's in the winter months, June July and August. So no white Christmas for us unless we all hide in a big freezer.

here comes wednesday:

they're predicting rain until mid-afternoon, then turning to snow (accumulation of about 5-10 cm.), which means it'll be a barrel of laughs driving to work tomorrow! Because so far, this is what we've got. It rained, then it got cold, and the rain froze. So now we've got icy roads. Followed by a massive snow-fall, which means the ice is covered by snow, making getting around (especially on foot) very slippery. And with today's rain, followed by another snow-fall, we're getting ANOTHER layer of ice and snow! (see? THAT's what I don't like about winter here!) but I must admit, on clear days, when it's not freezing cold or windy, winter is very pleasant!

And just a little side-note: the sidewalks are still unplowed in most places, meaning the poor pedestrians have to walk in the road to get around. If I were to stand in the middle of the snowbank in front of the vet clinic where I work, the snow would be up to my armpits!

LOL I love the daily updates in photos! I know snow is such a pain in the butt when you have it, but when you move away from the north you sure can miss it sometimes!

I love snow, but hate shoveling and month after month of extremely cold weather. So I guess I'm glad I no longer live in Michigan.

Here's a picture of my big boy in last years only snow:

And here's me with the dogs in our big snow two years ago:

So far this year we did have some ice, but no snow.

here comes thursday!

I haven't checked the weather report for today, but the radio was saying this morning that the heavy snowfall we got yesterday has downed power lines, phone lines, and possibly contaminated waterways too. Monday wasn't so bad, because it was light snow. This snow is wet and quite heavy. The clothesline out back is drooping quite a bit, and some of our cedar hedges are bent nearly to the ground (or at least to snow level). I took a walk with Dixie this morning, up to the post office, and it was tricky going. We had to dodge slush and puddles, walk in the street, and try not to get in the way of oncoming cars. Some of them were fish-tailing around corners, and there was a real danger of getting splashed! Jolly, aren't I?

Charm's Dad, is that a wolf in your first pic.? It sure looks like one!!

and to illustrate what I was saying about the hedges:

this is the one in the first batch of pictures I posted (Monday)

and here's the one that runs along the side of the road
(these 2 hedges were the hardest hit by the Ice Storm back in '98)

Yes he is. He and his partner are Alaskan Gray Wolfs (Canis lupus occidentalis - also called Rocky Mountain or Mackenzie Valley Gray Wolf.) This is the same subspecies that will be hunted from airplanes in Alaska because of a very controversial wildlife control plan.
