I posted about this on the Behavior forum and someone suggested I take a chance and ask for help here.

Several weeks ago I adopted a cat from a no-kill sanctuary. A vet runs the place and vets each cat before sending them home.Beofre I adopted her I was able to spend many days playing with her in the open room she shared with many cats. She was social, calm and very loving with each cat. I considered her 'bomb proof' I thought she would fit easily in my home with my sometimes loud husband , occasional children visiting and especially my two male cats.

They did have a rule there - no picking up the cats-having spent time with her I never considered that would come to haunt me.

The vet gave her to me and gave me a tube of Terramycin saying she just had a 'red eye' I almost asked her to keep her and treat her and then I would get her later. I didn't

The cat had lived at the rescue since she was 6 weeks old. I knew the move would frighten her.

She ran straight under a bed and stayed there for 3 days. It was a platform bed so she stayed there but had plenty of room to play with wand toys eat, drink etc. At day 3 I needed to get her out because I needed to treat her eyes , I had noticed that now both eyes were red. I removed the base of the bed. This so frightened her that she did n't eat for 2 days.

She started to come around but I noticed she was shaking her head, she has mites.

I was able to but the meds in her eyes no problem.

After a few days I could tell the eyes were no better. I called the rescue and the vet wanted to see her.

When I went to pick her up she went cray, I got 3 puncture wounds and many lacerations. I had not even touched her yet, I had simply moved my right arm in front of her. I backedoff and waited 5 days, Saturday I was once again moving my arm and she bit me in the face, UGh,

I called the rescue throughout these days and they really had no advice.

Saturday I borrowed at cat trap and did not feed her after breakfast yesterday. I set the trap this morning- no go- Later I was petting her, she was so relaxed so I scruffed her a few times without lifting. She relaxed more. I thought I could get her in the crate but her foot hit the top of the bar and she went off she tore through the skin between my thumb and forefinger.

Over the weeks I have tried every way to get her to relax around the crate - no way- yesterday I removed the crate from the room and she was overjoyed, happy playful, relaxed.

It is my thought that since she grew up at the rescue when they crated her, and she ended up here without her cat friends she is terrified, she would have come around except I could not wait for that , I need to get her to a vet.

I want to take her to the sanctuary and have them treat her eyes so That I can take her back when she is well and we can begin again being able to give her time without poking and prodding to get used to me.

I am mad that she was sent here sick, it was an awful beginning. Right now the problem is , there is no way to get her in a crate.

I think that she, like a feral who has been trapped before, will take a good long time to fall for that again.

There are Feliway plug-ins in the room, relaxing cat music etc. I have tried everything.

The vet who founded and runs the sanctuary lives by me but has no interest in coming over to help me.

I called a mobile pet clinic they would charge me almost 1k to come here, check her eyes, her ears, sedate her. I can't pay that. My vet cannot give me anything to sedate her without me bringing her in.

If anyone lives in San Jose CA. and can help me or knows of anyone who can PLEASE. This poor cat needs to get well . I can't let her with my cats , which might cheer her, she is a real 'cats cat' and is lonely but, no doubt contagious.

I have tried everything, she is not food motivated and is hyper vigilant now.I would appreciate anything anyone can suggest if they are near me. I can pay for someone who can help me get her into a crate.

I did post this in behavior with the title HEP I need to get scared/aggressive cat into carrier

Ok, just a couple of suggestions that may or may not work.

-Have you tried calming sprays?  We are having some construction done in our home right now, and every morning before the working come, I spray the "safe room" with calming spray and so far there hasn't been any issues and I've been doing this for 3 weeks.  Mainly my 3 cats just hang loose and 2 of them do NOT get along
.

-Have you tried Rescue Remedy for Pets?  In addition to the calming spray, I am giving mine Rescue Remedy.  they need 4 drops and it seems to last quite a long time.  I put 2 drops on something they really love to eat, like a piece of freeze dried chicken or fish, and give each of them 2 pieces.

-Have you tried calling around to different Vet's offices to see if there is a Vet Tech who might be willing to come over and help.  They usually want to earn some extra money and are quite experienced in this sort of thing.  We have one come over and pill one of our cats because she has the jaws of a pit bull
If nothing else, maybe he or she could help get this poor baby into a carrier so you could get her back to the rescue to be treated there.

Maybe one, two, or all THREE of these might work

Demut- Thanks for that referal I may try them.

Mrs Green Jeans- Yes, I have Feliway plugs in that I always use when I bring home a  new cat. I also use the spray and rescue relief. Ugh, this has been a mess. I also tried the composure chews which I have usually had success with. She will not eat them. Compsure liquid mixed in food also not successful.

I may have something that is working- I set my big dog crate up in her room and she was walking in and out. I put a litter tray in there and some water and food and a little blanket. She will go in and eat. The problem right now is that she is keeping a very sharp eye on me. I will just keep doing her feeding in there etc. She is actually a very friendly playful cat who just happens to avoid any sign she will be picked up. I am going to be patient, play with her in the room. I will hang out and one day soon I just know she will have relaxed enough that I will be able to close the door and lock her in.

That poor cat.

Wish me luck!
