My husband and I never really set out to be cat owners. We were very happy with just our two goldfish. I enjoyed cats, though, and would keep cat food on hand to give out to the neighbor's cats.

But, one night in May of 2014, I heard a low meowing outside my front door. I opened the door and a cute little gray cat dashed into my house. I went to find him a can of cat food and opened it. He gobbled it down in record time, like he hadn't had a square meal in a month.  I placed FOUND ads, contacted the Humane Society, the police, etc. and also checked for a microchip, to no avail. The check for at the vet though did confirm that he was already neutered, so he must have had a family at one point. My best guess is that he was a recently abandoned cat. We live out in the country, in a wooded area, far from the road, and the end of our road is a popular place for dumping cats.

I really don't have a clue why anybody would abandon him, he is the world's most PURRfect cat. He immediately stole our hearts and it just seemed logical to keep him, after all due diligence to find any owners, was exhausted to no avail. I feel ridiculously flattered to have been chosen by a cat. He is very loyal and affectionate and is just an amazing addition to our family. We put a collar and tag on him and eventually got him microchipped as well. He loves to come in and hang out with us indoors during the day, but he meows at the door when he wants to go outside and hunt rabbits and mice on our acreage. He stays with us indoors every night though.

I came home one day and he was sitting on the front lawn eating a rabbit that he had caught.

Our 2nd kitty, we got more recently. My mother-in-law died a few months ago and her elderly cat was having increasing behavioral and litterbox issues. We love him dearly and are trying to troubleshoot his issues, but it's proving a challenge. I'm hoping that seasoned cat veterans might be able to offer some counsel.

It's good to be here with fellow cat lovers!
