I adopted an adult male cat about a year ago, Yesterday he started to drool. He soaked my bed spread. I brought him to the vet and he gave him a complete exam. Since he didn't lose his appetite and he was still a bit playful the vet gave him a shot for the drooling a shot for nausea and an antibiotic shot because last November he had an URI and I guess it was precautionary. He is an indoor cat only but very curious. I did clean my toilet bowl and we think he may possibly have drank from it. ( the vet was aware of this) problem is that since coming back from the vet the drooling has restarted and he actually looks sick now. If he did ingest the toilet cleaner, will this pass ? and if so how long will it take ?

If you think your cat may have ingested toilet cleaner I would consider it an emergency and I would take my cat back to the vet and call the ASPCA poison control hotline at (888) 426-4435.

I would not wait for the toilet cleaner to pass through the cat's body. By that time serious internal harm and toxicity could result. Please bring your cat back to the vet for treatment. Bring the container of toilet cleaner to the vet with your so he / she can check the ingredients and formulate a plan on how to treat your cat.

First of all he isn't passing out from a poison kind of sick. Secondly he is still eating and drinking. Third I called the vet and he said that he most likely ate something and it didn't go down correctly so that's what causing the drool. He offered an X-ray. But by the time I got home from work the drooling stopped, and he's back to his normal self. Vet said he will probably poop it out. Since he's not in pain or lethargic it will pass.

Ok. Glad he's doing better. :)

You have to appreciate, though, that if there's any suggestion of a cat ingesting a potentially toxic substance then of course people will straightaway recommend veterinary attention. We can't see the cat, and it would be irresponsible of us to suggest any other action.

Also the OP suggested the cat might have ingested toilet cleaner.
