What to do when your cat is trying to kill you?

Hello. My cat is very sensitive to noise and will start fighting anyone over it, but especially me. I'm generally very clumsy, so each time something falls from my hands or I trip over something or hit myself on something, she will come running and jump on my legs, painfully tearing into the skin. Sometimes - and I hate doing that - I have no choice but to swat her away to get her to stop, because gently removing her will only make her ambush me all over again. Simply trying to walk away doesn't work either. My legs are starting to look as if they'd been sewn together by Dr Frankenstein. She does this mostly to me. I get the feeling she doesn't like me in general and I'm beginning to feel very depressed about it. Any ideas how to handle the situation?

Have you tried trimming her nails? :-)

Her nails are trimmed, but it doesn't seem to help much in this regard. She gets very violent.

Have you tried any calming agents, like Feliway diffusers or calming collars or treats?

Does she hide all day? She might be feeling threatened.

I would try to expel her energy with toys as well as creating some more cat safe places like a cat tree or shelves with her scent on them.

The calming plugins is a good idea too!

There are lots of different ones.

Here's a review of Feliway plug-ins:  http://www.thecatsite.com/products/comfort-zone-with-feliway-diffuser-for-cats/reviews/4549

and the Feliway spray:  http://www.thecatsite.com/products/comfort-zone-with-feliway-spray-for-cats/reviews/4292

Here's a section on calming collars:  http://www.thecatsite.com/newsearch?search=calming+collars&type=15

There are also treats and in really serious cases, you can get a prescription from your vet for calming/tranquilizing medications.
