Psychotic about food

Our lil girl Mia is completely nuts about food and seems to be telling us she's hungry all the time. She's just shy of one year and a very healthy size- maybe 8 or 9 lbs- and I have her on this organic wet food (It's called Herrmanns, a brand we can get in Denmark where our choices are seriously limited), and is only beef-- just heart, tongue, lung, larynge (ew) and stock-- like 82% moisture, 12% protein-- anyway, we're giving her about 6 oz total a day plus some dry food in a food ball, so she has to work for it, but she still seems completely preoccupied with food. She still plays a lot and naps and acts like a normal kitty, but it's this food thing that has me thinking we're ignoring some problem or doing something wrong.

Also, I'm aware this might be more appropriate under Cat Behaviour or Cat Health, but it's food, so ..

Any insights? Thanks :)

Could you try giving her a little more wet food and divide that into two daily meals?

Oh I meant around 6oz total-- it is divided into 2 meals-- morning and evening. She gobbles each up in an alarmingly short amount of time.

She's still very young and they do eat a lot more since they're more high energy. I would probably feed her more and as much as she'll eat (but divided meals - not all at once).

I agree about feeding more! Cats eat a lot at that age. I'd probably also try feeding a little more, perhaps making it three meals by adding a small (maybe 1-2 ounces?) snack to see if that helps. We feed five meals a day to our cats and all those small meals seem to have helped them get over their food fixation: they were seriously underfed and hungry when we adopted them. One will still eat too fast and then vomit if she's given too much of certain foods at a time.

Also, just for reference, our cats--who are a little over two years old, very, very active, and weighing in at around 8 pounds each--typically eat the equivalent of roughly a couple ounces more each day than your cat, MitziballsMama. Of course all cats are different and calorie contents of foods differ a lot, too.

Good luck!

Are you feeding the Herrmann's Meat (cans) or Herrmann's Menus (pouches)? From the ingredients list, it sounds as though you're feeding the Meat - a complementary food. Your girl is probably going so crazy over food because it's not giving her everything she needs.

It looks like you can use zooplus in Denmark. I use them for most of my cat food. I'd be happy to give you a list of complete and balanced wet options that work well for my girl, who's about the same age as yours and 3.6kg at the moment. She gets 250-300g a day, depending on how hungry she is, and she gets wet only. Hope that helps a bit.
