Our Bengal Makena loves to spend time outdoors with us. In nice weather we get him out nearly every day. His pelt is very thin and he needed a sweater when we headed out, if he catches a chill, he wants to head home. Springtime always finds him full of energy. This winter was too cold for him and he did not get out much, so he is loving this spring. He headed out across the yard at a fast trot
First order of the day is to strategically leave scent around the property
And do some scratching to leave marks
A crack in an old downed tree caught Makena's attention and called for a thorough investigation. I have seen him flush mice out of cracks but today he just sniffed.
The day quickly warmed up and we took his sweater off. I love to see his coat shining in the sunlight.
My wife and I found a comfy spot to sit and talk while Makena patiently sat a few yards away and enjoyed the morning
On the way back we stopped at a pond where Makena investigated a frog
And got petted by his mum
Makena sometimes likes to simply run around the yard. The running burns up his excess energy which might otherwise get used around the house........ So his mum ran with him a bit while I snapped a few shots.
Makena is fast. I would guess he can sprint somewhere between 30 and 40 mph. He knows exactly how long his lead is (25 feet) and he lets us get a head start, then zips past us, always skidding to a stop or turning before he runs out of lead.
Back home Makena had an early lunch, then joined his Bengal friend Lilia on the couch
I said at the start of this that we get Makena out for a walk nearly every nice day, but I guess that is not really quite accurate. Its the other way around. The truth is, Makena is gets us out, and for this, I am very grateful.
