Guys, it was called to my attention on my quilting forum, that I was a very insensitive person when I posted the other day about my Christmas gift to our deacon. I chose the title because at least two of our members told me jokingly that he was going to kill me when he got it.....If I have hurt anyone, I'm sorry, and if you would like for me to get the mods to remove it please let me know. Now I'm going to go back off in my own little hole in the wall and cry, because the worst thing in the world for me is to hurt someone, whether intentionally or unintentionally. Thanks!

Oh, I wouldn't worry about it. It's all in fun. People need to learn to lighten up. I don't think it's offensive at all.

The only thing I can think of that would come across as insensitive is that fact that the deacon is widowed. But you did say it was 12 years, which isn't that recent. Plus no one but you understands what type of sense of humor he possesses. Personally, I wouldn't do it, because a Deacon is supposed to be dignified, and I would be afraid to pushing the envelope. But I didn't find it offensive, maybe just a little odd, but again, you are the only one who knows the players.

I didn't find if offensive - I was glad you put the (funny) in the title, and I thought that made it pretty clear that it was in fun.

MA, odd shouldbe my middle name! Truthfully, he's going to get a great big kick out of it, he's just that kind of guy. The offence that was taken on the other site was with the titleing of my thread(just like it is here), and I just cannot stand the thought of hurting someone else. My dad is the one of his fellow deacons (yeah, I was raised a deacon's kid, and probably know more about the buisiness end of running the church and the way it should be done than most of the male members because of that), and dad thinks its hilarous.
Mods, if you want to rename it, I won't be offended, and if you think that its ok as it is, that's ok too, I'm actually easy to please (unless you're talking to my husband
).

Nothing offensive about it at all -- you did make it clear it wasn't serious. As Hope said, they need to lighten up. Relax. It's OK

Not offensive at all - I think a little humour never did anyone any harm. And you did put 'funny' in the title which meant hopefully those looking would not take it too seriously.

Hello Kitten

Nah, that wasn't offensive to me. I thought it was quite an imaginative idea You know the people in your life better than someone here ever could and understand their sense of humor. Don't sweat it.

I wouldn't call it offencive. Creepy, but that is about it. I'm sorry, I've always thought those dolls were creepy. The ones make of dried up apples freaked me out as a kid, and we had to make them in class one year!

I agree with M.A. - you know the people involved. If you think he will find it funny and not remind him of his loss, I think it is fine. You said you checked with you Dad, who must know him very well, so I think you should do what you think is right.

My Dad was a Deacon for most of my going up life. They are just ordinary people who want to serve the Lord. They usually are warm people with a soft-heart.

Like others have said here - I think that your title was ok as you did put "(funny)". Without it I could see a problem, but as it's there - what's offensive there?

I don't get it anyway. Those were people on another forum complaining about your thread here?
or did you put up a similar thread there as well?
